COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s golf team captured its first tournament win of the season at the Inverness Intercollegiate on Tuesday, showcasing a balanced team performance from start to finish. The Buckeyes fired a 3-under 281 as a team to claim the title. That was the lowest final round by eight shots.
The victory marked an early rebound for the Buckeyes in just their second fall event and highlighted the depth of talent across the roster. With three players finishing in the top 10 and four inside the top 15, Ohio State set a strong tone for the remainder of the season.
Freshman duo Matilde Santilli and Sophie Eppelstun provided the spark in the final round, each posting a collegiate career-best 69 (-2) to lead the Buckeyes’ charge. Their efforts were complemented by Nellie Ong, who turned in a steady 70 (-1) to add valuable depth to the team total. All three players finished in the Top 8. Ong led the field with 39 pars over the 54 holes.
Rounding out the scoring, Kary Hollenbaugh carded a 73 (+2) on the final day, while Mandy Song contributed a 76 (+5). Playing as an individual, Marina Joyce-Moreno closed out her tournament with a 75 (+4) to finish at 11-over par and tied for 16th.
The win was the Buckeyes’ fourth in the last two seasons. They will now have a month off before closing out the fall portion of the schedule at the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree GC in San Marcos, Texas.
