Ohio State Drops Five-Set Marathon at Wright State

The Buckeyes had three players with at least 10 kills apiece and five with at least 10 digs apiece.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (2-4) dropped a five-set marathon (22-25, 27-25, 31-33, 25-21, 11-15) against Wright State (4-3) on Saturday evening at the Tru by Hilton Beavercreek Invitational, hosted by the Raiders.
Wright State took an early lead in the first set and held off the Ohio State attack for a 25-22 set win. The second set was tied at every point between 19 and 25 before the Buckeyes scored the final three points of the set to even the match with a 27-25 set win. The Raiders claimed a 33-31 set win in the third set – the Buckeyes' longest set of the season. The Buckeyes forced a fifth set with a 25-21 win in the fourth, leading the set from start to finish. Wright State ended the match with a 15-11 win in the fifth set.

- S1: Reese Wuebker opened scoring with the first two kills of the match, but it was Wright State that held an early 9-6 lead. Wuebker tied the set at 11 and Mia Stahler tied the set at 15, each with an ace, but the Raiders regained the lead each time. Wright State used a 3-0 run to take an 18-15 lead and win the set by a 25-22 margin.
- S2: Each team had an early 3-0 run in the set before the Buckeyes strung together a 5-1 run to take a 10-6 lead on an ace from Hannah Jones. Wright State battled back to tie the set four times between points 10 and 17. The set remained tight as the score was tied at every point from 19 through 25. Ohio State fought off Wright State set point and scored the final three points of the set to win by a 27-25 margin on a block from Mia Tuman and Kaia Castle.
- S3: The Raiders got off to a quick start, building a 7-3 lead early in the set. Ashley Carr had a stretch of a block assist and three-consecutive kills over four Buckeye points as OSU gained an 11-10 advantage. The Raiders responded with a 6-0 run and led by as many as five at 17-12. The Buckeyes used three unanswered points to get within one at 20-19 and a 4-1 run to tie the set at 23 on a kill from Jones. Ohio State took a 24-23 lead, its first since leading 11-0. The set was tied at every point from 23 through 31 before back-to-back Wright State points gave the Raiders a 33-31 set win.
- S4: The Buckeyes began the set with a block from Castle and Tuman and built an early 11-6 advantage. Ohio State stretched its lead to 18-11 on the back of a 5-1 run. Wright State responded with a 4-0 run and got within two at 19-17. The Raiders would get no closer than two points as the Buckeyes forced a fifth set with a 25-21 set win.
- S5: Wright State scored the first two points of the set. The teams traded points before the Raiders strung together four unanswered points to extend their lead to 8-3. The Buckeyes responded with an extended 6-2 run to get within one at 10-9. Wright State used a late 3-0 run to win the set by a 15-11 margin.
- Ohio State was well-balanced with three players recording at least 10 kills and five players recording at least 10 digs.
- This season, Ohio State is 5-2 in sets requiring more than 25 points to win.

- Olivia Hasbrook surpassed 10 digs for the third time this season and reached 20 for the first time this season. She totaled a career-high 23 digs today to lead the match after also becoming the first in the match to reach 10 digs.
- Mia Stahler finished the match with a career-high 13 digs, reaching double figures for the first time in her collegiate career.
- Mia Tuman recorded her second double-double of the season by tying her career-high 58 assists and recording a season-high 13 digs. She also tied her career-high six blocks.
- Kaia Castle recorded a career-high 10 blocks.
- S1: Wuebker led all players with five kills in the set.

- The Buckeyes return home to host the Sports Imports Classic next weekend. Ohio State will face Virginia on Friday at 5 p.m. and Troy on Sunday at 1 p.m. with both matches being broadcast on B1G+. Virginia and Troy will face off on Saturday at 3 p.m.
