Buckeye Block Seals Five-Set Win Against Troy

Kaia Castle broke the single match program record with 15 blocks as Ohio State totaled 26.0 blocks in Sunday’s win.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (3-5) won in five sets (22-25, 25-18, 26-24, 30-32, 15-12) against Troy (2-6) on Sunday afternoon in the final match of the Sports Imports Classic.
The first set was tight throughout with 12 ties and three leads changes, but Troy prevailed with a 25-22 set win. Ohio State used a 7-0 run midway through the second set to earn a 25-18 set win and even the match. Facing Troy's set point, Ohio State scored three unanswered points to win the third set by a 26-24 margin. The Trojans fought off seven Buckeye match points in the fourth to force a fifth set with a 32-30 set win. Ohio State held a narrow lead throughout the entirety of the fifth set, winning by a 15-12 mark.

- S1: The first set was tied at every point until back-to-back Buckeye points gave OSU the 8-6 advantage. Troy responded with a 4-0 run to take the lead before Ohio State tied the set again at 10. The Trojans regained the lead and led 16-13 out of the media timeout. The Buckeyes tied the set at 16 and 19 but couldn't take the lead down the stretch, falling by a 25-22 margin in the set.
- S2: Ohio State scored the first two points of the set before Troy had early leads of 6-5 and 9-7. The Buckeyes strung together four unanswered points to take an 11-9 lead and force a Trojan timeout. The set was tied at points 12 through 15 before a 7-0 Buckeye run gave OSU a 21-15 lead. Mia Tuman secured a 25-18 set win with an ace.
- S3: The Buckeyes opened scoring and used a 4-0 run to take an early 6-4 lead. Troy battled back to tie the set at nine. The Trojans used a 3-0 run to take a 16-15, their first since leading 4-2. The set was tied at points 15 through 20 before back-to-back Buckeye points. The Trojans responded with back-to-back points to tie the set again at 22. Facing Troy's set point trailing 24-23, Hannah Jones recorded back-to-back kills to give Ohio State the lead. Ashley Carr and Kamiah Gibson sealed a 26-24 set win with the Buckeyes' 15th block of the match.
- S4: Troy scored the first two points of the set before the teams alternated scoring. Ohio State tied the set for the first time at 12 on a kill from Carr. The Buckeyes scored three unanswered points to take a 15-13 lead into the media timeout. After Ohio State built an 18-14 lead, Troy scored the next six points to take a 20-18 lead. The Buckeyes tied the set at 21 and scored back-to-back points to take a 24-23 lead on a block from Carr and Gibson. The Trojans fought off seven Buckeye match points to force a fifth set with a 32-30 set win.
- S5: Reese Wuebker began the fifth set with a kill and an ace. Jones rattled off four kills in the span of five points to give Ohio State a 6-2 lead. A 3-0 Troy run cut OSU's lead to 7-6 before Wuebker answered. Three unanswered points of their own gave the Buckeyes a 10-6 lead. The Trojans put together another 3-0 run to trim their deficit to one at 11-10. Ohio State sealed the match with a block from Carr and Wyman to win the set by a 15-12 margin.
- Kaia Castle broke the single match program record with 15 blocks. Her 11 block assists tie for third among single match program records.
- Ohio State totaled 26.0 blocks today – the second-most in a single match in program history. This is the third time this season the Buckeyes have totaled at least 10 blocks as a team.
