COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State and West Virginia will play a neutral site game this upcoming December as the teams will meet in the Cleveland Hoops Showdown at Rocket Arena on Saturday, Dec. 13. The game time will be announced at a later date.
"Cleveland is a great city full of Buckeye passion and rich basketball tradition," Ohio State head coach Jake Diebler said. "I'm excited for our program to participate in the game against West Virginia. We look forward to the stage and atmosphere this game provides and want to continue to reach our fans across our great state and beyond."
Tickets for the event are set to go on sale on Oct. 9, with a 24-hour presale confirmed for Oct. 8. Fans are encouraged to register at www.bit.ly/25ClevelandShowdown to receive email alerts regarding the event and to also be eligible to receive ticket presale access for Oct. 8.
Ohio State and West Virginia will be meeting on the hardwood for the 19th time and the third time in Cleveland in the last six seasons. The Buckeyes lead the all-time series 10-8 but West Virginia has had the upper hand as of late, winning eight of the last 10 meetings. The teams split the previous two games in Cleveland as the Mountaineers won 67-59 on Dec. 29, 2019, and then the Buckeyes won an overtime thriller 78-75 on Dec. 20, 2023.
Intersport, a Chicago-based sports marketing and events agency, will lead the event operations for the neutral site contest. Intersport manages numerous early season college basketball events, including its signature event, the CBS Sports Classic. Ohio State will compete in CBS Sports Classic again this season, taking on North Carolina in Atlanta on Dec. 20.
