COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men's lacrosse players Greg Langermeier, Alex Marinier, Gannon Matthews and Ed Shean were named United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-Americans, the organization announced Tuesday.
To qualify for the award, the student-athlete must be nominated by his coach, be a senior in academic standing with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale) and have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. Nominees must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player.
Ohio State's four Scholar All-Americans this year tie for the most in a single season for the program. The team also had four honorees in 2022 and 2020.
The group of Buckeyes all received Academic All-Big Ten and Ohio State Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2024-25 academic year. Langermeier, Marinier and Shean earned degrees from Ohio State in May and Matthews is set to graduate with a master's degree this summer.
Langermeier was a captain and starting short stick defensive midfielder for the Buckeyes last season. He ended the year with 20 ground balls, 14 caused turnovers, three goals and three assists. The Westlake, Ohio native is now playing in the Premier Lacrosse League for the Carolina Chaos.
Marinier led the Buckeyes with 50 goals in 2025, becoming just the third player in program history to hit the mark and the first since 1981. The First Team All-Big Ten honoree's final season included at least a goal in all but two games, 13 multi-goal games and 10 hat tricks. His seven goals against Air Force tied for the fourth-most goals scored in a game by a Buckeye and the most since 2019. The Burlington, Ontario native also earned an honorable mention USILA All-America nod.
Matthews's senior season ended with 18 goals, seven assists and eight ground balls. A starting midfielder for the Buckeyes, Matthews tallied two hat tricks, including three goals in the regular season finale win over Michigan to bring the Creators' Trophy back to Columbus and in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal win over Rutgers. The honorable mention USILA All-American scored the team's first goal in the conference tournament championship game and went on to add an assist as the team took home its first Big Ten Tournament title.
Shean recorded 25 points in 2025 on 19 goals and six assists. Three of his goals were scored on the extra man opportunity and he added 15 ground balls on the year. He also tallied seven points in the Air Force game with four goals and three assists. Shean had six multi-goal games, including two-goal outings in the regular season wins over Denver, Rutgers and Michigan.
