
Buckeyes Conclude NCAA East First Round with 15 National Qualifiers

The NCAA Championships start on Wednesday, June 11, and will be held in Eugene, Ore.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State wrapped up four days' worth of competition on Saturday, seeing 16 athletes qualify for the NCAA Championships and two program record broken. Nationals will be held out in Eugene, Ore. starting on Wednesday, June 11 and run through Saturday, June 14.

On Wednesday, Fillmore became the first Buckeye to punch their ticket to nationals after finishing 10th in the long jump (7.51m/24'7.75").
Leah Bertrand broke the 100m program record on Thursday with a time of 10.92 seconds, which is tied for No. 3 on the all-time performers list in the event at the NCAA East First Round. To match that, Braxton Brann had his own program record setting time in the men's 110m hurdles of 13.36 seconds today and qualified for nationals. He surpassed associate head coach Joel Brown (now third, 13.45, 2004) and Kentre Patterson (now second, 13.39, 2022) on the all-time individual performance list.
Friday's action consisted of Nick Biega, Nazzio John, Marcus Brown and Denzell Feagin reaching the men's 4x100 relay semifinals after running a season-best time of 39.21 seconds. Tanner Watson's throw of 56.70m / 186'0" qualified him for the men's discus finals. Edidiong Udo finished sixth overall (45.27 seconds) and qualified for the men's 400m semifinals in Eugene. The men's 4x400 relay team (Noah Carmichael, Mason Louis, Udo and Brann) earned a spot in the next round with the sixth fastest time of 3:03.42, also a season best, to wrap up Friday's action.
Saturday concluded with Ugarte qualifying for nationals after clearing a height of 1.82m / 5'11.5" in the women's high jump, tying her season best. The women's 4x100m relay squad (Olive, Spencer, Conde and Bertrand) punched its ticket to Oregon after placing third in its heat with a season best time of 43.46 seconds. Spencer set a personal best (12.94 seconds) in the women's 100m hurdles, qualifying for nationals. Bertrand also heads to the national site as an individual after finishing in 10.99 seconds in the women's 100m. Both Bertrand and Conde qualified for the women's 200m semifinals after setting personal records of 22.71 seconds and 22.78 seconds, respectively. Both athletes now reside on the top five women's 200m individual performances. Bertrand has the third fastest time, surpassing Donica Merriman (22.75, 2000). Conde, who already was fifth on the list, improved from her time of 22.91 and moves up to fourth on that list.

Hammer throw first round: Lacey Stringer's best mark of the day was the Buckeyes' second-best of the season at 59.49m/195'2", which put her in the top half of the competition.

100m hurdles first round: Spencer ran a personal best time (12.97) to win her heat and earn an automatic qualifying spot to the next round, scheduled for Saturday at 6:15 p.m. Her PR was the fifth-fastest time of the round and bested her previous PR (12.99) set last year at the NCAA Championships.

100m first round: Bertrand won her heat and finished second overall with a PR of 10.92 seconds. She broke the program record, previously set by Yanique Dayle in 2023 (11.05), and is tied at No. 3 in collegiate history.

400m first round: Michaela McCall's time (52.91) was the Buckeyes' second-fastest time of the season.

200m first round: Conde (22.87) and Bertrand (22.91) finished first and second in their heat, respectively, to earn automatic qualifiers to the next round. Both also ran a PR with Conde's improving her standing as fifth on the list of all-time leaders in program history in the event. The quarterfinals are scheduled to take place on Saturday at 7:50 p.m.

Long jump first round: Fillmore finished second in his flight and 10th overall with a best mark of 7.51m/24'7.75" to advance to Eugene.
