“Athletes Helping Athletes” society has a vision to unite all generations of former student-athletes
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Varsity O Alumni Society, whose slogan is “Athletes Helping Athletes,” is bolstering that vision with a goal of increased engagement, a stronger sense of community, more direct communication with the Varsity O Board, and a more exciting future for Buckeye alumni athletes.
To accomplish this, the Ohio State Department of Athletics and The Ohio State University Alumni Association are partnering on a dynamic plan to unite all generations of Ohio State student-athletes through impactful programs, leadership opportunities, and enhanced support for the lifelong Buckeye community.
Central to this effort is the creation of a new position – Director of Varsity O (Consultant of Engagement and Alumni Relations) – that is now open to learn about and apply for at Athletes Helping Athletes. Individuals with working experience in collegiate athletics and/or alumni relations are encouraged to apply and be a part of shaping an extraordinary and more unified Varsity O that will engage people, honor our traditions and celebrate excellence.
“Added resources for Varsity O will offer more ways for alumni to get involved through networking events, mentorship programs, community outreach, or through exclusive member experiences,” Ross Bjork, Senior Vice President and Wolfe Foundation-Eugene Smith Endowed Athletics Director, said. “Most importantly, the new leadership framework empowers former student-athletes to take an active role in steering Varsity O toward its fullest potential.”
“We are excited for the opportunity to partner with the Department of Athletics on this dedicated position to engage our alumni who were former athletes and who continue to be proud Buckeyes,” said Molly Ranz Calhoun, President and CEO, The Ohio State University Alumni Association, and Senior Vice President, Engagement.
The Varsity O Alumni Society connects student-athletes who have earned at least one letter in a varsity sport through events and programs and supports student-athletes through scholarships and donations.
