
Ohio State Third in LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup Standings

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Department of Athletics is in third place through the Winter season in the annual LEARFIELD Director’s Cup Standings that honor institutions maintaining a broad-based program and achieving success in its NCAA sports programs.
Stanford University is in first place with just over a seven-point lead and 904.00 total points withNorth Carolina in second with 896.75 points. Ohio State has 794.75 points for third place with Penn State (750.00) and Wisconsin (693.70) rounding out the Top 5.
Currently, Ohio State has had 13 sports programs compete at their respective NCAA championships and College Football Playoffs and contribute points toward the department’s total through the fall and winter seasons.
Ohio State’s six women’s teams to make an NCAA field include the fall sports of soccer (9th place, overall) and cross country (32nd), and the winter sports of hockey (2nd), swimming and diving (14th), basketball (17th) and gymnastics (17th).
The six Ohio State men’s NCAA (and CFP) teams were football (1st) and soccer (3rd) in the fall, and these winter sports: wrestling (5th), gymnastics (7th), hockey (9th) and swimming and diving (16th).
In addition, the co-ed fencing team was sixth at the NCAA championships.
The Big Ten Conference boasts six of the top eight teams to date and leads all Division I conferences with nine institutions in the Top 25: Ohio State (3rd), Penn State (4th), Wisconsin (5th), Michigan (6th), USC (7th), Nebraska (8th), Minnesota (15th), Oregon (18th) and Illinois (25th).
