Four Buckeyes Earn All-MIVA Awards

Freshman Stanislaw Chacinski Named MIVA Newcomer of the Year
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Coaches named four Buckeyes to 2025 All-MIVA teams Wednesday.Â
Cole Young, a senior middle blocker from Powell, Ohio, Shane Wetzel, a junior opposite hitter from Lake Mary, Florida, and Stanislaw Chacinski, a freshman outside hitter from Warsaw, Poland, all earned All-MIVA First Team honors. Freshman setter Daniel Henwood Rodriguez, a native of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, was named to the All-MIVA Second Team.
Chacinski was tabbed the MIVA Newcomer of the Year.Â
Young also earned first team honors in 2023 and 2024. He was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association Honor Mention All-American in 2023 and 2024 as well. This season, Young is hitting .352 with 157 kills in 26 starts. He leads the Buckeyes in blocks with 65.Â
For his career, Young ranks 13th all-time at Ohio State with 301 assist blocks. He currently owns the No. 15 position in total blocks with 330. He also eclipsed the 700 career-kill mark this season.Â
Wetzel, the last Buckeye to claim league newcomer of the year (2023), has been a second team All-MIVA the last two season in addition to being named an honor mention AVCA All-American in both years as well.Â
This year, Wetzel leads the Buckeyes with 365 kills, 46 aces and 170 digs.Â
Chacinski has started all 26 matches of his rookie season. He is second on the team in kills with 310, aces with 37 and blocks with 47.Â
Henwood Rodriguez has started 23 matches in 24 appearances. He's recorded 888 assists on the year with 26 aces and 43 blocks.Â
The Buckeyes are back in action at 5 p.m. Saturday in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 MIVA Tournament. Ohio State, the No. 3 seed, will host No. 6 Lindenwood at the Covelli Center. For ticket information, go to OhioStateBuckeyes.com.Â
