INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 13/12 ranked and No. 3 seeded Ohio State women's basketball team (25-6, 13-5 B1G) fell to No. 4 ranked and No. 2 seeded UCLA (29-2, 16-2 B1G) by a 46-75 margin in the Big Ten semifinalists.
UCLA was efficient in the first half, building a 22-8 lead after 10 minutes and a 44-21 lead at halftime. The Bruins led by a 67-30 after three quarters of play before sealing the 75-46 win.
Jaloni Cambridge was the lone Buckeye in double figures and totaled 10 points. All five Ohio State starters scored in the contest. The Buckeye defense forced 16 turnovers and totaled nine steals.
How it Happened
UCLA opened scoring after winning the jump ball and Jaloni Cambridge answered with a second-chance jumper. The teams alternated scoring before the Bruins went on a 10-0 run that gave them a 16-5 lead with three minutes to play in the quarter. The Bruins held a 22-8 lead at the end of the first quarter after back-to-back baskets to end the quarter.
Cotie McMahon had the Buckeyes' first two baskets in the second quarter but back-to-back Bruins layups prompted an Ohio State timeout trailing 29-12 with seven minutes to play in the half. J. Cambridge made two jumpers in the span of 18 seconds, but UCLA ended the half on a 9-0 run and took a 44-21 lead into the locker room.
McMahon and J. Cambridge each made a basket to open the third quarter, but UCLA made a trio of three-pointers to increase its lead to 53-25 and prompt an OSU timeout with 6:45 remaining in the third. The Bruins put together a 14-0 run to lead by a 61-25 margin with 3:32 left in the quarter. The Buckeyes trailed 67-30 after three quarters of play.
Ajae Petty scored the first points of the fourth quarter for either team with seven minutes remaining in the frame. Scoring was capped at 75-46 on a Madison Greene fastbreak layup as Ohio State scored the final 10 points of the game.
