COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 3 Ohio State will host No. 16 Illinois in a non-conference match in Columbus on Wednesday evening. First serve is set for 6 p.m. from the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
Admission and parking are free for all men’s tennis matches.
- This will be the first of two meetings this season. The teams will also play their conference match in Champaign on April 11.
- The Buckeyes have won 16 of the last 17 meetings with Illinois, including a pair of 4-1 victories last season.
- Overall, Ohio State leads the all-time series with Illinois 59-54-1 and the Buckeyes are 35-14 against the Illini since Ty Tucker took over in 2000.
- Ohio State is 10-2 on the season and is coming off an enjoyable 5-0 sweep of No. 12 Michigan last Wednesday night.
- Illinois is 6-3 on the year and is coming off a 4-1 setback at Baylor on Sunday. The Illini also beat Michigan 5-2 last month in Champaign and have losses to No. 14 Tennessee, No. 7 Duke as well as No. 17 Baylor. The Buckeyes have beaten Baylor twice this season.
- Jack Anthrop enters the week just three wins away from 100 in his career. He owns 75 singles wins and 22 career doubles victories.
- Three Buckeyes are ranked in the latest ITA rankings. Aidan Kim leads the way at No. 14, followed by Alexander Bernard at No. 52, and Jack Anthrop at No. 64.
- In doubles, Ohio State has two ranked teams. Bryce Nakashima and Will Jansen stand at No. 23 while Aidan Kim and Alexander Bernard stand at No. 74.
- The doubles pairing of Nikita Filin and Brandon Carpico continues to impress as they are 11-2 on the year and are coming off providing the clinching point vs. Michigan, beating veterans Alex Cairo and Will Cooksey in a tiebreaker 11-9.
- Chris Li leads the team with 15 singles wins on the year while Anthrop has 13 and Aidan Kim and Preston Stearns each have 12.
- This will be the final non-conference match as the Buckeyes will embark on Big Ten play this weekend when their host Penn State on Saturday at noon.
