
Buckeyes Advance to Frozen Four with 6-1 Win Over St. Lawrence

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team has punched its ticket to the 2025 NCAA Frozen Four. The Buckeyes (28-7-3, 19-6-3 WCHA) defeated St. Lawrence, 6-1, Saturday night at the OSU Ice Rink in the NC Women's Ice Hockey Regional Final to advance to their fifth straight Frozen Four.
Short Story
St. Lawrence struck first in the game, scoring on the power play at 6:26 in the opening frame to take a 1-0 lead. The goal was its first and only of the contest.
The Saints' lead was short lived as Sloane Matthews tied the game for the Buckeyes with a goal at 13:37. A save from Amanda Thiele with 6:30 to play in the frame led to a 3-on-1 rush led by Makenna Webster into the St. Lawrence zone. Webster skated the puck to the Saints' goal and dumped it back to Matthews, who was at the top of the goalie crease waiting to send a shot past Emma-Sofie Nordstrom.
The Buckeyes took the lead off a goal from Joy Dunne with 1:14 to play in the first stanza. Riley Brengman sent a pass from the blue line behind the Saints' goal to Jocelyn Amos. Dunne collected the feed from Amos at the bottom of the faceoff circle and beat the glove of Nordstrom for the tally.
The second period was scoreless with Ohio State holding St. Lawrence to just one shot on goal and Norstrom coming away with 22 saves for the Saints to keep the Buckeye advantage to one goal entering the final frame.
Ohio State scored four goals in the final nine minutes in the third quarter to secure the win.
A shot from Dunne in the slot led to a rebound falling right on the stick of Amos, who found the back of the net at 11:36 to extend the Buckeye lead to 3-1. Dunne and Webster connected on a give-and-go two minutes later with Webster lighting the lamp at 13:56.
St. Lawrence pulled its goaltender for a sixth skater and Dunne capitalized on the empty net with 2:22 to play in the game to extend the Ohio State advantage to 4-1.
The Buckeyes' final goal was scored by Jordyn Petrie with just over 14 seconds remaining in the game.

- Ohio State advances to the program's sixth Frozen Four with Saturday's win. All of the team's Frozen Four appearances have come during head coach Nadine Muzerall's tenure. The team has previous Frozen Four appearances in 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
- The Buckeyes' six goals scored in the regional final win are the second most scored in an NCAA tournament game by the program. The record of nine were recorded in last year's regional final.
- Joy Dunne led the team with four points on the day. She is the first Buckeye to record multiple goals in an NCAA tournament game and now holds the record for most points in an NCAA tournament game in program history.
- Amanda Thiele picked up her sixth NCAA tournament game win on Saturday. She is now 6-1 in the tournament.
