COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's lacrosse team picked up its second win of the week with a 14-4 victory over Cleveland State Saturday at the Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.
The Short Story
Ohio State (2-1) took the lead at 7:42 in the first quarter and held Cleveland State (0-1) scoreless in the opening stanza. The Buckeyes only allowed one goal in the first half and three in the second for their second consecutive game holding an opponent to just four goals.
The Buckeyes' transition game was on full display Saturday as the team finished 19-of-23 on clears and capitalized early in the shot clock multiple times on the day.
Alex Marinier led the Buckeye attack with four goals in the game. Ed Shean scored his first hat trick of the season while Ryan Donnery added a multi-goal game. Donnery tied Marinier with four points on the day after recording two assists.
Jack Oldman finished 12-for-15 from the faceoff and grabbed a team-high nine ground balls. Coleman Kraske added two wins on three attempts.
Donnery, Zack Antoniou, Cullen Brown and Bobby Van Buren each caused two turnovers for the Buckeyes as the team finished the day with 15 caused turnovers.
Caleb Fyock earned the start in goal for the Buckeyes and finished the day with five saves on six shots faced. Henry Blake came in for the final quarter for Ohio State, making three saves.

How it Happened
- The game opened with a couple of point-blank saves by both goalies before Ben Mayer tallied the first goal of the game at 7:42.
- Bobby Van Buren started the Buckeyes first goal in transition after intercepting a pass in front of the Buckeyes' goal and running the ball down the field himself before making a pass off to Zack Antoniou. Antoniou connected with Ryan Donnery, who buried his first goal of the game at 5:03 to give Ohio State the 2-0 first quarter lead.
- The Buckeyes added two goals in the first five minutes of the second quarter with Ed Shean (13:21) and Garrett Haas (10:42) recording their first goals of the day.
- Cleveland State scored its only goal of the half at 4:27 to end the Buckeyes' scoring run.
- Ohio State closed the first half with three goals in the final 1:15. Alex Marinier found the back of the net with 1:15 on the clock and Shane O'Leary scored with just 15 seconds to play in the half. Jack Oldman won the ensuing faceoff and quick-sticked a pass from Donnery into the goal as the clock hit zero.
- The Vikings scored first in the second half but were outscored by the Buckeyes, 6-1, in the second quarter.
- Alex Marinier rattled off three straight goals in a two-and-a-half-minute span to build the Buckeye lead to 10-2 with 6:36 to play in the third quarter.
- Ohio State kept the pace on attack as Ed Shean scored off an Oldman faceoff win just six seconds later to increase the lead to 11 goals.
- Griffin Turner's first goal as a Buckeye came at 3:28. Donnery, who assisted Turner's goal, scored in the final minute of the quarter to put the Buckeyes ahead 13-2 with 15 minutes to play.
- Cleveland State was first to score in the fourth, finding the back of the net at 10:54. The Vikings scored twice in the fourth with their second goal, the final goal of the game, at 3:13.
- The Buckeyes' final goal was scored by Donnery at 5:41 to give Ohio State 14 goals for the second straight contest.
