
Buckeyes Medal in Both Relays on Night One of B1G Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 13 Ohio State men's swimming and diving team earned medals in both the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay on the first night of the Big Ten Championships on Wednesday in Minneapolis.
The Buckeyes opened the night winning a bronze medal in the 200 medley relay. The relay team of Cornelius Jahn, Karl Helmuth, Matt Klinge and Daniel Baltes turned in an automatic NCAA qualifying time of 1:23.17.
In the 800 free relay, the team of Tomas Navikonis, Alex Metzler, Jordi Vilchez and Tristan Jankovics swam a program record and NCAA A cut time of 6:10.99 to win the silver medal. It beats the previous record of 6:12.39 set by Navikonis, Metzler, Alex Axon and Jankovics in 2024. Navikonis' lead-off 200 free of 1:31.54 is also a program record, coming in just under his own previously held record of 1:31.55 set in 2024.
After the first night of competition, the Buckeyes are in a tie for third place with Michigan with 110 points. They are just six points behind first-place Indiana and two points behind second-place USC.
The Big Ten Championships continue Thursday, Feb. 27-Saturday, March 1. Prelims will begin at 10:00 a.m. CT/11:00 a.m. ET each day, with diving consolation finals beginning at 5:00 p.m. CT/6:00 p.m. ET and swimming finals starting at 5:30 p.m. CT/6:30 p.m. ET each day.
