Regular Season Wraps Up for No. 8/10 Buckeyes vs. No. 11 Wolverines

Teams will meet Thursday and Friday in Columbus
The Basics
- The No. 8/10 Ohio State men's hockey team wraps up the regular season this week vs. No. 11 Michigan.
- The teams will meet in Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio, at 8 p.m. Thursday and 6 p.m. Friday.Â
- Both games will be televised by BTN and streamed through the Fox Sports app. Ohio State Radio will carry the series (1460 AM, Ohio State Buckeyes app and website) and live stats will be available through OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
- Ohio State is 20-10-2 this season with a 13-8-1 2-2-0 B1G ledger and is coming off two losses at Minnesota (4-1, 6-3). Michigan was off last weekend and last played Feb. 14-15, with an overtime win and tie/shootout win against Minnesota in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines are 17-12-3 overall and 11-9-2 5-0-2 in league play. Â
- Ohio State enters the series in third place in the Big Ten with 40 points and has secured a Top 3 seed for the B1G Tournament. Michigan is in fourth place with 32 points, one point ahead of fifth-place Penn State.
- For both games this weekend Buckeye fans are encouraged to Wear Scarlet.
- Thursday there is a sweatshirt giveaway for the first 700 Ohio State students, with the design created by Buckeye goalie Logan Terness.
- Friday is Senior Night, with the ceremony pregame starting about 5:35.Â
- Friday there will be a scarlet pom pom giveaway for all fans and a Burger King crown giveaway for Ohio State students.Â

- Ohio State is No. 8 in the USCHO poll and No. 10 in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live rankings this week, its 18th-straight week in the Top 20.
- The Buckeyes are in the Top 16 in the NCAA in scoring defense (2.44 goals allowed per game), scoring offense (3.28 gpg), scoring margin (.84) and winning percentage (.656).
- For the sixth time in the last eight years, the Buckeyes have hit the 20-win mark. The squad has also secured its fifth Top 3 finish in the B1G in that stretch.
- Six Buckeyes have reached the 20-point mark. Gunnarwolfe Fontaine is first with 32, followed by Riley Thompson (29), Davis Burnside (29), Aiden Hansen-Bukata (23), Damien Carfagna (22) and Max Montes (22).Â
- Thompson leads the team with 16 goals. Hansen-Bukata has a team-high 21 assists.Â
- Hansen-Bukata recorded his 100th collegiate point against Wisconsin Feb. 15, the first current NCAA blueliner with 100 points (11g, 90a).
- Fontaine has a point in 13 of the last 18 games. He is fourth among current NCAA players with 129 career points.
- Ohio State enters the final weekend four points behind second-place Michigan State and six behind first-place Minnesota in the Big Ten standings. The Buckeyes have an eight-point edge over fourth-place Michigan, who is one point ahead of Penn State.Â
- Ohio State is 12-2-1 at home this season, with a 7-8-1 ledger on the road and 1-0-0 neutral ledger. In Columbus, the Buckeyes are scoring 3.87 goals a game, allowing 2.07 a night.Â
- The Buckeyes are 5-1-1 in game one of their seven series since January and 2-5 in game two, with two of the losses in overtime.Â
- Friday, the eight members of the Buckeyes' Class of 2025 will be recognized pregame.
- The group includes fifth-year Buckeyes Joe Dunlap and Patrick Guzzo, Reilly Herbst, a four-year Buckeye, Caden Brown, Brent Johnson and Logan Terness, who all are in their second year in the Scarlet and Gray, and graduate transfers Gunnarwolfe Fontaine and Aiden Hansen-Bukata.
- Ohio State and Michigan faced off for the first time in 1964 and after games in 1969-70, 1974-75 and 1978-79, have met at least once each season since 1981-82 when Michigan joined Ohio State in the CCHA.
- The Wolverines lead the all-time series, 97-52-16, including 41-27-8 in Columbus.Â
- The teams split a series in January, with Ohio State winning 4-3 outside at Wrigley Field in Chicago Jan. 3 and the Wolverines posting a 3-2 win in Ann Arbor Jan. 5.Â
- Patrick Guzzo leads the current Buckeyes with 20 games played vs. Michigan, along with a team-best six points (3g, 3a). Joe Dunlap has seen action in 17 games vs. UM and has a 1-3-4 line. Max Montes has three goals in six games vs. the Wolverines. Gunnarwolfe Fontaine posted four points, with two goals and two assists, and Riley Thompson posted a 2-1-3 line in the first series vs. Michigan this season.
- Ohio State split its series with Michigan in January, rallying for a 4-3 win at Wrigley Field in Chicago and falling in overtime in Ann Arbor, 3-2.Â
- In game one, Ohio State trailed 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 less than five minutes into the second. Ohio State tied the game with two goals in the final 4:34 of the second, from Sam Deckhut and Noah Powell. Michigan pushed ahead at 9:15 of the third with a power play goal. Riley Thompson deadlocked the game at 12:05 and then tallied the gamewinner with just 38 seconds left, with both goals on the power play. Buckeye goalie Kristoffer Eberly made 31 saves in all 60 minutes. Ohio State was 2-for-6 with the man advantage in the win and 0-for-2 on the penalty kill.
- In game two, Ohio State led 2-0 just over 10 minutes into the game on a pair of Gunnarwolfe Fontaine goals, with the first on the power play. The Wolverines tallied with the man advantage at 8:46 of the second and tied the game at 3:15 of the third. The gamewinner came 20 seconds into the overtime session. The Buckeyes were outshot in the game, 36-32, with Logan Terness making 33 saves in 60:20. Ohio State was 1-for-2 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill on the day.Â
