The women’s swimming and diving team displayed uncommonly good speed, skill, spirit, teamwork and love and won its fifth Big Ten championship in the last six years, and 10th overall, last Wednesday through Saturday at the spectacular McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Individual Big Ten titles were won by Lena Hentschel (repeat champ on 1-meter diving) and Sienna Angove (400 IM).

Congratulations, also, to the men’s and women’s fencing teams, which each won Central Collegiate Fencing Conference team championships Saturday in Detroit. The men captured their fifth consecutive team title and the women won their fourth crown. Five fencers won individual conference championships: Dasha Myroniuk (foil), Gloria Klughardt (epee), Natalia Botello (sabre), Nolan Williams (sabre) and Justin Vogler (foil).



The men’s lacrosse team took it to the Virginia Cavaliers Saturday in dominant fashion on its way to a 14-5 win that improved its record to 5-1.



The baseball team (1-5 overall) gave coach Justin Haire his first win as Buckeye skipper – and his 318th in this, his 11th season as a head coach – with an 8-3 victory over No. 12 North Carolina State at the Jax College Baseball Classic on Saturday.



The No. 8 women’s tennis team improved to 6-1 this season with a win over No. 16 Oklahoma State at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.

Softball is now 9-3-1 on the season after a 4-0 week in various parts of Florida with wins over Cornell, Sienna, North Florida and Central Florida.

The No. 15 men’s volleyball team split matches at McKendree and at Lindenwood this weekend and is now 6-7 overall and 3-2 in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.



The No. 2 women’s hockey team swept St. Cloud State this weekend at the OSU Ice Arena and enters WCHA play this weekend – at home! – with a 25-6-3 overall record and a 19-6-3 league mark.



The No. 8 women’s basketball team won two of three games last week, including a 52-point win over Purdue on Sunday for the largest margin of victory in a home Big Ten game in school history, and is now 23-4 overall and 12-4 in the Big Ten.

The No. 7/6 men’s hockey team dropped a series at league-leading Minnesota but the team has clinched a Top 3 place in the standings for the Big Ten tournament with its 13-7-1 Big Ten record and 21-9-2 overall mark.

The No. 22 women’s gymnastics team posted its second-highest team score of the season but ultimately lost to No. 25 Penn State, 196.525-196.300, Saturday at Rec Hall.

Seven members of the men’s gymnastics team (9-1, 1-0 B1G) competed at the Winter Cup in Louisville, Ky. on Friday and Sunday.



The men’s basketball team (15-13; 7-10 Big Ten) is on an extended road trip to the west coast and will look to conclude it with a win Wednesday evening at USC.
