COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior attacker Alex Marinier and senior defender Bobby Van Buren were named Big Ten players of the week, the conference announced Tuesday. Marinier is the league's co-Offensive Player of the Week and Van Buren earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Marinier scored 10 goals in the Buckeyes two wins last week over Bellarmine and Air Force. He recorded his second straight game with a hat trick with three goals in the win over the Knights. The Burlington, Ontario native added seven goals on eight shots in Saturday's victory against the Falcons, including a first quarter hat trick and five goals in the first half. His seven goals were the most goals scored in a game by a Buckeye since the 2019 season and tied for seventh in the program record book for goals in a game.
Marinier leads the team with 19 goals and points this season. He also leads the conference in the same categories. The award is his first of his career.
Van Buren combined for four ground balls and three caused turnovers in last week's wins for the Buckeyes. The captain helped Ohio State hold Bellarmine to just four goals on the day for the team's third straight game holding its opponent to four goals. His efforts also helped the Buckeyes keep Air Force to just four goals in the first three quarters.
The Wingate, N.C. native also tallied his first career point with an assist in the Air Force win and tied his career-high three caused turnovers for the second time this season in the Bellarmine win. The award is his first of his career and the Buckeyes' second consecutive conference defensive player of the week honor.
