Buckeyes Bounce Back with 4-2 win over No. 6 Columbia

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a tough-luck loss on Friday in the opening round of the ITA Indoor Team National Championship, No. 4 Ohio State bounced back with a solid 4-2 victory over No. 6 Columbia on Saturday in Waco, Texas.
The Buckeyes are now 8-2 on the year and will play a final consolation match on Sunday.
Ohio State won the doubles point for a second consecutive day, but Columbia would get on the board wins singles wins on courts one and two. The Buckeyes rallied and won on courts four, five and six to win the match.
Doubles
- Nikita Filin and Brandon Carpico continued their good play with a 6-3 win on court three to post the first doubles win.
- The No. 45 team of Michael Zheng and Nicolas Kotzen would defeat Buckeyes Aidan Kim and Will Jansen on court one to even the doubles score at 1-1.
- The Buckeyes would take the point with a 6-2 win on court two from Bryce Nakashima and Preston Stearns.
Singles
- Nakashima and Stearns would be pivotal in the singles matches as well.
- Nakashima was dominant in his 6-1, 6-1 win over Sachin Palta on court five, which put the Buckeyes up 2-0.
- Columbia would claim wins on courts one and two to pull even at 2-2.
- Jack Anthrop made it 3-2 Buckeyes as he bested No. 41 Hugo Hashimoto 6-4, 6-2 on court four. That was Anthrop’s 11th win of the year.
- The final point came from Stearns on court six. He won a good first set with Thanaphat Boosarawongse 7-4 in a tiebreaker and then took the second set 6-4 to win the match.
