Ohio State won six of 10 matches, including four by bonus points
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The fourth-ranked Ohio State wrestling team won each of its first four matches on Saturday to build an early lead that it would never relinquish in a 25-14 victory at No. 18 Michigan. With the win, the Buckeyes improved to 12-1 on the season while the Wolverines fell to 5-4 overall. Ohio State won six of 10 matches on the day with four coming via bonus points.
Saturday's dual, which was held inside the Crisler Center, began at 125 pounds and Ohio State's Brendan McCrone, ranked No. 18 nationally, finished strong to earn a 12-3 major decision over unranked Christian Tanefeu. McCone's win was the first of three consecutive by bonus points that helped the Buckeyes jump out to a 13-0 lead.
Those big-scoring Buckeyes matches continued next at 133 pounds, where Nic Bouzakis had a big second period, scoring 12 points, to build a 17-3 lead over Nolan Wertanen and then finished the technical fall in the third period for a 19-2 win. Bouzakis improved to 17-4 on the season and 8-2 in duals.
Next, a 141 pounds, top-ranked Jesse Mendez remained unbeaten on the year (21-0) with a 13-2 major decision over 11th-ranked Sergio Lemley. It was his ninth win this season over a ranked wrestler and 17th via bonus points.
