Buckeyes Beat Boilermakers in New Year’s Eve Matinee

Ohio State’s offense was fueled by four double-figure scorers.
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The No. 19/20 Ohio State women's basketball team (12-2, 2-1 B1G) beat Purdue (8-6, 0-3 B1G) by an 83-56 margin on the road to wrap up the 2025 calendar year.
Ohio State shot 66.7 percent in the first quarter, building a 30-17 lead after 10 minutes that was capped by a buzzer beater from Jaloni Cambridge. The Buckeye defense only allowed one field goal in the second quarter, using a 17-11 advantage in the frame to extend the lead to 47-28 at halftime. Ohio State led by a 70-45 margin after a back-and-forth third quarter. The Buckeyes capped a low-scoring fourth quarter from the free throw line to win by an 83-56 margin.
J. Cambridge reached double figures at the end of the first quarter and finished with 14 points. Ava Watson (13), Kennedy Cambridge (16) and Chance Gray (14) joined J. Cambridge in double figures. Kylee Kitts led the game with 10 rebounds.

Quarter-by-Quarter Recap
- Q1: Kylee Kitts opened scoring with a layup and the Buckeyes built an early 9-2 lead, prompting a Boilermaker timeout with 7:22 remaining in the quarter. Ohio State strung together a 6-0 run and an 8-0 run, marking an extended 14-3 run, to increase its lead to 27-10 with 1:15 to play in the opening frame. J. Cambridge beat the buzzer to give the Buckeyes a 30-17 lead after 10 minutes.
- Q2: Ohio State put together a 9-0 run to increase its lead to 41-19 just past the midway point of the quarter. The Buckeye defense did not allow a Boilermaker field goal until 1:03 to play before halftime. Watson capped first-half scoring at the charity stripe as Ohio State led by a 47-28 margin.
- Q3: The Buckeyes opened the second half with the first seven points and led by a 54-28 margin with 8:09 remaining in the third quarter. The lead was 61-36 midway through the quarter at the media timeout. The teams alternated scoring for the majority of the quarter as neither team scored more than four points at a time for the remainder of the third quarter. Ohio State held the 70-45 advantage after 30 minutes.
- Q4: Ohio State scored the first five points of the quarter to push the lead to 30 points at 75-45. The defense by both teams picked up as neither team recorded a point for me than two minutes. The Buckeye defense didn't allow a field goal for the first eight minutes of the quarter. Scoring was capped with a Boilermaker layup at 83-56.
- Ohio State's defense held Purdue to 30.2 percent shooting from the field and 18.2 percent from behind the arc. The Buckeye defense forced 26 turnovers and finished the game with 13 steals. This is the ninth game of the season forcing 20 or more turnovers and the 10th game of the season with 10 or more steals.
- Jaloni Cambridge was the first in the game to reach double figures, doing so with a buzzer beater at the end of the first quarter. She finished with 14 points and has scored 10 or more in all 14 games this season.
- Ava Watson reached double figures before halftime and finished with 13 total points. This is her fourth double-figure performance of the season.
- Kennedy Cambridge scored in double figures for the sixth time this season and finished with 16 points. The Big Ten steals leader added three steals and four assists to her stat line.
- Chance Gray's eighth double-figure game of the season was good for 14 points.
- Kylee Kitts led the game with 10 rebounds, her fifth game of the season with 10 or more rebounds.
- Elsa Lemmilä tied her career-high three steals.
- J. Cambridge added a career-high three blocks, a season-high five steals, seven assists and seven rebounds. Her assists and rebounds were both one shy of her career-high.
- Q1: Ohio State shot 12-of-18 (.667) from the floor and 4-of-7 (.571) from long range in the quarter. The Buckeye defense forced nine turnovers in the frame and recorded five steals.
- Q2: Ohio State's defensive front forced Purdue to miss its first 11 field goal attempts of the quarter.
- Q3: The Buckeyes made nine field goals in the quarter, compared to the Boilermakers' five.
- Q4: The Buckeye defense did not allow a Boilermaker field goal for the first eight minutes of the quarter.
- Ohio State hosts Rutgers on Sunday for a 2 p.m. ET tip off. The game will be broadcast live on BTN and AM1460.
