
Record Numbers of All-Americans for Ohio State

The program set or tied three All-America records in 2025: total, unanimous and combined unanimous/consensus
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State football program developed record numbers of All-Americans this season, tying the school record with seven first-team All-Americans and setting new records with three unanimous All-Americans and four combined unanimous/consensus All-Americans.
SAF Caleb Downs, DT Kayden McDonald and WR Jeremiah Smith are the unanimous All-Americans, having been named to the first teams of all five teams the NCAA uses for unanimous and consensus designation: the Associated Press, Walter Camp, American Football Coaches Association, The Sporting News and the Football Writers Association of America.
LB Arvell Reese is a consensus All-American, giving this year's team a record four unanimous/consensus honorees, with first-team honors by the AP, Walter Camp and the AFCA.
DE Caden Curry (On3), C Carson Hinzman (AFCA) and LB Sonny Styles (The Sporting News) each earned first-team All-America honors as well, boosting the 2025 team into a tie with the 1974 team for the most first-team All-Americans.
Ohio State's previous high for unanimous All-Americans was two (in 1970, 1973, 1987, 1995, 2016 and 2019), and for combined unanimous/consensus All-Americans was three (in 1944, 1969, 1974, 1995, 1996, 2002 and 2006).
Ohio State All-American Notes
§ In seven seasons, Ryan Day's program has developed 27 players into first-team All-Americans.
§ Ohio State led the nation this year in consensus/unanimous All-Americans with four.
§ Caleb Downs is a unanimous All-American for the second consecutive season. He is the sixth two-time, unanimous All-American at Ohio State following WR Marvin Harrison Jr. (2022-23), OT Orlando Pace (1995-96), RB Archie Griffin (1974-75), FB Bob Ferguson (1960-61) and RB Hopalong Cassady (1954-55).
§ Downs is the only player to repeat as a unanimous or consensus All-American in 2025.
§ Jeremiah Smith is the second unanimous All-American wide receiver in school history after Harrison Jr.
§ The only other Ohio State defensive tackle to earn unanimous All-America honors besides Kayden McDonald is Jim Stillwagon … 55 years ago in 1970.
§ Arvell Reese is the first consensus All-American linebacker for Ohio State since his position coach, James Laurinaitis, in 2008.
§ Reese and Sonny Styles are the first Ohio State tandem of linebackers to be named first-team All-America in the same season.
§ Ohio State has had consecutive All-American centers with Carson Hinzman in 2025 following 2024 All-American Seth McLaughlin.
§ The seven 1974 Ohio State All-Americans: CB Neal Colzie, DT Pete Cusick, DE Van Ness DeCree, RB Archie Griffin, C Steve Myers, OT Kurt Schumacher and P Tom Skladany.
§ Ohio State now has developed 99 consensus All-Americans, a total that includes 41 unanimous All-Americans.
§ Three Buckeyes earned second-team All-America honors in 2025: OG Luke Montgomery (AFCA), QB Julian Sayin (AFCA, Walter Camp) and WR Carnell Tate (AFCA, TSN, Associated Press, On3).
§ Sayin (The Athletic) and RB Bo Jackson (The Athletic, On3) each earned freshman All-America accolades.
