The Buckeyes had four in double-figure kills in the five-set win over the Scarlet Knights on Sunday afternoon.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (5-17, 2-12 B1G) beat Rutgers (11-15, 2-12 B1G) in a five-set thriller (25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-12) on Sunday afternoon in Piscataway. Â

Ohio State opened the match with a 25-23 win in a back-and-forth first set. Rutgers evened the match with a 25-18 win in the second set. The Buckeyes again took match advantage, holding off a late Scarlet Knights push to win the third set by a 25-23 margin. Rutgers again tied the match with a 25-18 set win in the fourth, forcing a fifth set. The Buckeyes sealed the match with a 15-12 win in the fifth set, scoring the final three points.

- S1: Set one went back and forth with Ohio State taking the first lead of the day off a kill by Kaia Castle. For the first 11 points of the set, Rutgers went up by one point before Ohio State would battle back to tie the set. The Buckeyes' first lead of the match came with three straight points by Olivia Hasbrook on an ace, kill and receiving error. The opening frame had 14 ties and seven Buckeyes recorded a kill with the team hitting .455 to take the set, 25-23.
- S2: The Buckeye block got started in the second set with Ohio State recording 4.0 blocks in the set. Rutgers used a pair of 4-0 runs during the first half of the set to take a 15-9 lead into the media timeout. The Buckeyes couldn't score more than two consecutive points down the stretch and the Scarlet Knights tied the match with a 25-18 set win.
- S3: The third set was tight early before a 3-0 Ohio State run gave the Buckeyes a 9-5 lead and a second 3-0 Ohio State run increased the Buckeye lead to 15-9 heading into the media timeout. The Scarlet Knights used a 6-0 run to tie the set at 16 all – the first tie since the score was knotted at four. Ohio State scored three unanswered points to take a 21-17 lead, but Rutgers battled back to get within one. The Buckeyes sealed a 25-23 set win on a kill from Ashley Carr.
- S4: The Buckeyes led early in the fourth set before an extended 6-1 run by the Scarlet Knights gave Rutgers a 14-9 advantage. Ohio State got within three points at 19-16 on an ace from Kaitlyn Hoffman. Rutgers used a late 4-0 run to seal a 25-18 set win and force a fifth set.
- S5: The fifth set was a nailbiter, featuring four ties and three lead changes within the shortened set. Rutgers jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, but Ohio State used a 3-0 run to take its first lead of the set at 8-7 on the back of a pair of Hoffman aces. The Scarlet Knights scored back-to-back points, but the Buckeyes responded with a 4-0 run to take a 12-9 lead on an ace from Abby Yoder. Rutgers evened the set again at 12 before Ohio State scored the final three points of the match to seal the win on a kill from Carr.
- Ashley Carr recorded a career-high 12 kills and a career-high 15.0 points. She also totaled five blocks. This is the third match of the season in which she's totaled at least 10 kills and the third match she's had at least five blocks.
- Na'Vea Gauthier finished with career-highs in both kills (15) and points (16.5) and tied her career-high three blocks.
- Reese Wuebker had 10 kills – the 12th match of the season she's had at least 10 to her name.
- Hannah Jones tallied 14 kills, surpassing 10 kills for the 11th time this season.
- Kaitlyn Hoffman totaled a season-high three aces.
- S1: Hasbrook recorded just her second kill of the season to tie the set at 9-9.
- S2: Carr recorded three blocks in the set.
- S4: Gauthier tied her career high kills in a match, which she set in yesterday's win at Maryland, with the first point of the fourth set. She finished the day with a career-best and team-best 15 kills.
- S5: The set featured four ties with the latest one being 12-12. Ohio State scored the final three points of the match – a pair of kills from Carr sandwiched around a solo block from Jones.
- Ohio State is on the road again next weekend, traveling to Michigan for a Friday match at 7 p.m. and No. 25 Penn State for a Sunday match at 2 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast live on B1G+.
