Day One Complete for Buckeyes at Elite Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's and women's fencing programs competed in the Elite Invitational in French Field House in Columbus Saturday. The No. 6-ranked women were 4-1, with the No. 5 men 3-2.

The event wraps up Sunday, with competition starting at 8 a.m. Admission and parking are free. Fans can watch the action from strips 1-5 on OhioStateBuckeyes.com and FencingTV.com.

The Buckeye Women

The women were 4-1 on the day, with the only loss to No. 3 Harvard.
The squad went 3-0 in the morning, downing Wayne State, No. 10 Penn State and No. 7 Penn, along with a win over Air Force to close out the day.
Sabre was a team-best 4-1. Natalia Botello led the way, going a perfect 10-0, with 3-0 marks against Penn State, Penn and Harvard. Maria Alexe was 7-3 for the sabre squad.
Women's epee was 3-2 on the day, paced by Gloria Klughardt who was 9-4 and Sally Fan with a 5-2 record.
The women's foil squad was 1-4. Riyan Moradi-Behendi was 7-4, followed by Lira Cannon with a 6-4 mark.

The Buckeye Men

The men notched a 3-2 mark, defeating Wayne State, No. 10 Penn State and No. 7 Penn and falling to No. 3 Harvard and Air Force.
Men's epee posted a 4-1 ledger. Matthew Bülau notched a 9-3 record to lead epee and all men in victories, with Jakob Stange 7-5.
The men's foil squad was led by Lorenzo Mion (8-2) and Solin Li (8-4) and was 3-2 Saturday.
Men's sabre had a 2-3 mark on the day. Carter Berrio was 6-4 and Samuel Rightler was 5-5 to lead the squad.
