COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State continues its opening six-game homestand on Friday when it hosts Purdue Fort Wayne at Value City Arena. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Jason Ross Jr. and former Ohio State captain Joey Lane will call the action.
The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Neild Sika and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.
- Ohio State leads the all-time series with Purdue Fort Wayne 2-0. The Buckeyes won in Columbus in the 2018 home opener and then won again a season later in Columbus in 2019.
- The Buckeyes opened the year with a 118-102 victory over IU Indy on Monday night. The 118 points were the most scored in a season-opener in program history and it was the most points scored in a game at Value City Arena.
- Three Buckeyes scored 20 or more points in the opener, led by Bruce Thornton and Christoph Tilly with 26 each. For Tilly, who was making his Buckeye debut, the 26 points were a career high. For Thornton, it was his 26th career game of 20+ points and it moved him into the Top 20 in scoring in program history. Devin Royal added 22 points and eight rebounds while John Mobley Jr. had 16 points and a career-high tying eight assists.
- Thornton was named a captain this week and became the first four-time captain in the 127-year history of Ohio State basketball.
- Thornton has played in and started 103 games in his career and has scored 1,513 career points. That has him in 19th place on the program’s career scoring list and he’s just five points away from passing All-American and National Player of the Year Evan Turner.
- The Buckeye transfer big men Christoph Tilly and Brandon Noel had quite the Ohio State debuts. The duo combined to shoot 12-of-15 from the floor for 34 points and also combined for 19 rebounds and six assists.
- Ohio State also set a single-game record for free throws made in the season-opening win over IU Indy. The Jaguars committed an OSU opponent record 36 fouls, providing no flow to the game, and the Buckeyes made 42-of-53 attempts. The 42 FT makes topped the previous record by four shots.
- Purdue Fort Wayne opened the season a 90-71 setback at Grand Canyon on Monday night. Deandre Craig Jr. led the way with 18 points and three steals.
