Cambridge was also named to the Naismith Trophy Watch List and Preseason All-Big Ten Team.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Los Angeles Athletic Club John R. Wooden Award, presented by Principal, announced its preseason women's watch list on Tuesday. Ohio State sophomore guard Jaloni Cambridge was among the 50 players selected to the watch list.
The players on the list are considered strong candidates for the 2026 John R. Wooden Award® Women's Player of the Year. Players not chosen to the preseason list are still eligible for the Wooden Award® midseason list, late season list, and the National Ballot. The National Ballot consists of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the Wooden Award®. Wooden Award™ voters will rank in order 10 of those 15 players when voting opens prior to the NCAA Tournament and will allow voters to take into consideration performance during the tournament's early round games. The Wooden Award All American Team™ will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2025 John R. Wooden Award®, presented by Principal, will be presented at the Los Angeles Athletic Club on April 10, 2025.
Prior to the season, Cambridge was selected to the Naismith Player of the Year Watch List and to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team. Through the first three games, Cambridge is averaging 19.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. On Sunday, she scored her 500th career point.
In 2024-25, Cambridge was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year by both the coaches (co) and media. She was also a unanimous All-Big Ten First Team selection by the coaches and was the first member of the All-Big Ten Second Team by the media. Cambridge was selected as a finalist for the WBCA Coaches' All-America Team and to the USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Player of the Year midseason top 50 list. The USBWA National Freshman of the Week led the conference with four Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors and was twice named to the Big Ten weekly honor roll.
As a freshman, Cambridge ranked 16th in the conference in scoring (15.4 ppg), 10th in assists/game (3.9) and sixth in steals/game (2.0). She was one of only eight players in the conference and the only Buckeye to record more than one 30-point game last season. Cambridge scored 33 points in the Feb. 26 win against Michigan State – the most points by a Buckeye freshman since Kelsey Mitchell. Cambridge led the team with nine 20-point games and 113 assists and was second in scoring (15.4 ppg), steals (59), field goals made (167) and free throws made (88).
