Buckeyes Battle Boilermakers on Student Appreciation Night

Ohio State fell to No. 12 Purdue in the Buckeyes’ third match against a ranked opponent this season.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (3-10, 0-5 B1G) fell in three sets (19-25, 16-25, 17-25) to No. 12 Purdue (13-2, 4-1 B1G) on Thursday night's student appreciation night inside the Covelli Center.

Purdue got off to a quick start in the first set and won by a 25-19 mark. The Boilermakers went on to win the second set by a 25-16 margin. Purdue used a run midway through the third set to close the match with a 25-17 win.

- S1: Purdue built an early 5-2 lead and pushed the margin to 11-6, prompting an Ohio State timeout. The Buckeyes used a 4-0 run out of the timeout to get within one at 11-10 on an ace from Mina Gunes. The Boilermakers used an extended 8-2 run to increase their lead to 23-16 and won the set by a 25-19 margin. Â
- S2: The Boilermakers again led early, this time by margins of 6-2 and 9-5. The teams traded pairs of points as Purdue held the 15-10 advantage at the media timeout. The Buckeyes scored the next three points, including another pair of aces from Gunes, to get within two at 15-13. Purdue ended the set on a run to win by a 25-16 mark.
- S3: Ohio State started the set quickly, taking a 7-4 lead on an ace from Ashley Carr. The Buckeyes led by a 12-9 margin before a 7-0 Boilermaker run gave Purdue a lead that would not be relinquished. The Buckeyes fought off a pair of match points before Purdue closed the set and match with a 25-17 win.
