Ohio State Falls to No. 14 Minnesota in Minneapolis

The Buckeyes faced their fourth ranked opponent of the season on Sunday afternoon.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (3-11, 0-6 B1G) fell in three sets (22-25, 21-25, 14-25) to No. 14 Minnesota (14-3, 4-2 B1G) on Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis.

Minnesota used a late run to win the first set by a 25-22 margin. The Gophers scored five of the final six points of the second set to earn a 25-21 set win. Minnesota controlled the third set to end the match with a 25-14 set win.

- S1: Minnesota opened scoring and built an early 6-4 lead. Ohio State responded with the next five points and led by an 11-7 margin after back-to-back blocks, forcing a Gophers timeout. Minnesota tied the set at 11 out of the timeout before the Buckeyes regained the lead. The Gophers used a 3-0 run to take a 17-16 lead, their first since leading 6-5. Minnesota increased the lead to 24-18 with a 6-0 run and won the set by a 25-22 margin after three-consecutive aces from Mina Gunes. Â
- S2: The Gophers got off to a quick start with a 5-1 lead and led by as many as six points at 11-5 after a successful challenge. Ohio State cut its deficit in half by scoring the next three points before the teams traded points. The Buckeyes got within two at 17-15 on a block from Gunes and Kaia Castle. A block from Ashley Carr and Mia Tuman tied the set at 20, but the Gophers scored five of the final six points to earn a 25-21 set win.
- S3: Minnesota put together a 5-1 run to take an early 8-4 advantage and used three consecutive points to extend the lead to 15-9 at the media timeout. The Gophers scored eight of the final 10 points of the set to win by a 25-14 margin.
- This is the Buckeyes' fourth match against a ranked opponent this season.
- Seven different Buckeyes earned at least one kill and eight different Buckeyes recorded at least three digs.
- Mia Tuman recorded her 600th career dig.
- Mina Gunes rattled off three-consecutive aces at the end of the first set and also tied her career-high seven digs. Three aces are just one shy of her career-high four aces that she recorded in the previous match against a ranked Purdue team.
- Kaia Castle totaled at least five blocks for the third time this season, finishing with a team-high five blocks today.
- Olivia Hasbrook totaled a season-high seven assists, just one shy of her career-high.
- Hannah Jones recorded 10 or more kills for the ninth time this season, totaling 12 kills today.
- S1: Both teams recorded a 5-0 run in the set as the set was tied nine times.
- Ohio State returns home to face RV Illinois on Friday at 6 p.m. for the pink match. The match will be broadcast live on B1G+.
