CHICAGO – The Big Ten Conference hosted the 2025 women's basketball media day in Chicago on Wednesday with head coaches and representatives from all 18 teams in attendance. Head coach Kevin McGuff, sophomore guard Jaloni Cambridge and senior guard Chance Gray represented the Buckeyes.
Each team was broadcast live on BTN during a 15-minute studio set. Other media opportunities included time with BTN's 'On The Court' series, BTN marketing/digital, FOX, Sirius XM, NBC, TOGETHXR, Bleacher Report and Allez! Sports Media. Each coach and student-athlete pair spent time at a podium with reporters who made the trip to the Windy City.
Kevin McGuff:
"Jaloni [Cambridge] had a great freshman year and it was really fun to watch. I had the pleasure of coaching her. She's had a terrific offseason. Part of that was her experience at the Kelsey Plum camp and one of things coming out of that camp, to me, she's been more vocal and a little more confident in her voice. That's going to be important for us as we establish leadership for this season. That's the biggest thing I've seen is that she's been a little more vocal with her teammates in a positive way with her leadership."
"Both Chance [Gray] and Jaloni [Cambridge] set great examples with how hard they work. I think it's a lot easier to talk to your teammates about things when you're the person putting in the extra work. They've got a lot of credibility built up with this group having been here for a year. I'm optimistic and hopeful that they will both use that voice this year because we're going to need leadership out of both of them."
Jaloni Cambridge:
"For me, I want to slow down. We have times when we want to push the pace, but at the end of the day, that can't be the whole time. I want to work on slowing down and reading the defense."
"I didn't know what to expect for myself [as a freshman]. I just wanted to go out there and have fun. What I was able to do and accomplish was nothing short of amazing. All the points that I scored – I had no idea I was ever going to do that. I was honored to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Year."
Chance Gray:
"Coach McGuff is a coach that makes you play a lot harder and a lot grittier. He wants the best for us. I know any time we go out onto the floor, he's going to have our back and I'm going to have his back."
"I want to get back to how I was my first year in college, not just sticking to shooting three's. I have a lot more to my game – finishing driving, mid-range – so I want to use a part of that and shift my mindset to that the last part of the season. Going into the season, I want to be one of our best defenders."
Ohio State begins the season on Nov. 9, hosting Coppin State. View the Buckeyes' 2025-26 schedule HERE.
