Kaia Castle Ties Career-High 12 Kills in Oregon Loss

The Buckeyes fell to the Ducks in straight sets on Saturday night to cap the west coast trip.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (3-9, 0-4 B1G) fell in straight sets (21-25, 20-25, 17-25) against Oregon (11-3, 2-2 B1G) on Saturday night in Eugene. Â

Oregon took the lead midway through the first set and won by a 25-21 margin. The Ducks held off a late Buckeye push to win the second set by a 25-20 mark. Oregon used a 6-0 run midway through the third set to create the separation needed for a 25-17 set win.

- S1: Ohio State put together an early 5-0 run to take a 5-2 lead and then led by a 9-4 margin after a 3-0 run. Oregon battled back to tie the set at 14 and took its first lead since 2-1 at 16-15. The Ducks held the lead for the remainder of the set, winning by a 25-21 margin. Â
- S2: Oregon got off to a 7-1 start in the set amidst an Ohio State timeout. The Buckeyes used a 4-0 run to cut their deficit to 14-12 and got within one, 18-17, following a 3-0 run. The Ducks responded with the next four points to take control of the set and won by a 25-20 margin.
- S3: The Ducks began the set quickly, jumping out to a 5-1 advantage. The Buckeyes got within one at 5-4 but another Oregon push gave the Ducks a 9-5 lead. Oregon used a 6-0 run to push its lead to 20-10 and won the set by a 25-17 margin, ending the match.
- Kaia Castle was the first in the match to reach 10 kills, doing so for the fourth time this season. She tied her career-high 12 kills.
- Hannah Jones recorded double figure kills for the seventh time this season, totaling 11 kills tonight.
- S1: Castle led all players with six kills in the set, hitting .625.
- Ohio State returns home to host No. 13 Purdue on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in a match broadcast live on FS1.
