
Six-Goal Second Period Lifts No. 2 Buckeyes Past No. 7 Raiders

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team defeated No. 7 Colgate, 9-4, Saturday in Hamilton, N.Y. Spurred on by a six-goal second period, the Buckeyes (2-0-0) took game two for the series sweep of the Raiders (0-2-0).
The Short Story
Game two between the Buckeyes and Raiders started as a back-and-forth battle with six lead changes and three ties in the first 23 minutes of play at Class of 1965 Arena. Ohio State's fourth goal scored at 3:08 in the second period quickly turned into eight as the Buckeyes tallied six goals in the middle frame for the commanding 8-3 lead entering the third period. The team put together a six-goal scoring run beginning with their fourth goal to bring the 9-4 win and season-opening series sweep back to Columbus.

How it Happened
- For the second time in the series, Colgate struck first with a goal at 6:05 in the first period.
- Junior captain Jocelyn Amos recorded her first goal of the season at 9:11 in the opening frame, putting a rebounded shot from Jenna Raunio past Colgate netminder Farah Walker, to tie the game.
- Hilda Svensson scored on the Buckeyes first power play opportunity of the day, hitting sending a shot from the top of the faceoff circle over the stick of Walker, to give Ohio State the 2-1 lead. Colgate responded with its own power play goal at 14:15 to tie the game at 2-2 at the end of the first period.
- Sara Swiderski opened the second period scoring by knocking in a pass from Joy Dunne on a Buckeye rush at 1:18. The lead was short lived as the Raiders scored yet another equalizer at 2:41 on the power play.
- Kassidy Carmichael gave the Buckeyes their final lead of the game with a goal at 3:08 in the middle frame. Over the next 15:36, Ohio State scored five goals with Jordyn Petrie (4:30), Maxine Cimoroni (10:33), Sloane Matthews (16:41) and Svensson (18:44) combining to put the Buckeyes ahead 8-4 through two periods.
- Both the Buckeyes and Raiders scored in the third, with Macy Rasmussen lighting the lamp at 16:19 and Colgate tallying the final goal of the game at 16:50.
- Hilda Svensson completed a four-point weekend with two goals, her first of her career, in the win.
- In addition to Svensson, Kassidy Carmichael and Maxine Cimoroni also scored their first career goals. Sanni Vanhanen tallied her first point with an assist on Carmichael's goal.
- Ohio State's six goals scored in the second period were the second most goals scored in a period in program history.
- Hailey MacLeod made a season-high 15 saves to improve to 2-0-0 on the year.
