COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team opened the 2025-26 season with a top 10 win, defeating No. 7 Colgate, 5-3, Friday evening in Hamilton, N.Y.

The Short Story
Down by one after the first period, Ohio State scored twice in 30 seconds as it neared the halfway point of the game to take a 2-1 lead. Colgate added a goal in the frame to tie the game at two goals apiece after two periods of play from Class of 1965 Arena. The Buckeyes wasted no time to take control of the third, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes of the frame and went on to outscore the Raiders, 3-1, in the period to come away with the 5-3 win.

How it Happened
- Colgate was first on the scoreboard, lighting the lamp at 15:50 off a rebounded save by Ohio State goaltender Hailey Macleod.
- Sophomore defender Mira Jungåker scored the Ohio State's first goal of the campaign at 8:46 to tie the game. She was assisted by Hilda Svensson and was screened in front by Joy Dunne.
- The Buckeyes went on the power play 20 seconds later and it took Dunne just 17 seconds to score the equalizer after redirecting a shot from Raunio into the back of the net.
- Colgate went on the power play at 15:42 in the second and capitalized on the player advantage with its second goal at 16:49 to tie the game at 2-2 after 40 minutes of play. Â
- Ohio State wasted no time regaining the lead in the third period with Emma Peschel scoring just 2:20 into the stanza on a wraparound shot to start a stretch of Buckeye goals.
- Dunne followed with a goal 5:52, scoring between the legs of Raider goaltender Farah Walker for her second of the game.
- Jungåker also recorded a multi-goal game with a tally at 8:25 to give the Buckeyes the 5-2 advantage.
- Colgate tallied the last goal of the game at 12:13, but the Buckeyes held off the Raiders final push to come away with the win.
- Freshmen Jenna Raunio and Hilda Svensson recorded their first points of their collegiate careers in Friday's game. The duo each tallied two assists in the win.
- Friday marked the second career multi-goal game for Jungåker.
- Ohio State ended Colgate's 10 game season-opening win streak. The Buckeyes are the first team since 2013 to defeat the Raiders in their first game of the season.
- Hailey MacLeod earned her ninth win as a Buckeye, making 13 saves on the day. She improves to 9-1-1 in her Buckeye career and 25-6-4 overall.
- Freshmen Macy Rasmussen, Sanni Vanhanen, Kassidy Carmichael, Maxine Cimoroni, Leah Wicks, Raunio and Svensson skated in their first official games in the Scarlet and Gray jersey.
