
Buckeyes Win Game One vs. Huskies, 5-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team earned its fourth ranked win of the season Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink in a 5-1 win over No. 11 St. Cloud State.
The Buckeyes (6-1-0, 4-1-0 WCHA) and Huskies (4-5-0, 1-4-0 WCHA) meet for game two of the series Saturday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m.
The Short Story
Ohio State never trailed in Friday's game, taking its first lead at 12:26 in the first and regaining the lead at 7:59 in the second. After scoring twice in the first 40 minutes of the game, the Buckeyes tallied three goals in the first eight minutes of the third period for five goals on the day.
The Buckeyes held the Huskies to just 12 shots on the day and just three in the first and third periods. Ohio State goaltender Hailey MacLeod stopped all but one on the day to keep St. Cloud State, who was averaging three goals per game, to just a single goal.

How it Happened
- The teams opened the game with back-and-forth chances as both Ohio State and St. Cloud State's netminders were tested early, making three and six saves, respectively, when the media timeout was called at 10:46.
- Senior Brooke Disher put the Buckeyes' next shot into the goal, scoring on the back door off assists from Grace McCoshen and Leah Wicks.
- The Buckeyes' lead was neutralized at 2:43 in the second period on a goal from St. Cloud State's Maria Mikaelyan.
- At 7:59 in the middle frame, Ohio State was awarded a penalty shot which Hilda Svensson took, and scored on, to put the Buckeyes back in front.
- Joy Dunne needed just 23 seconds to in the third period to start a three-goal scoring spree for the Buckeyes. She was assisted by Jenna Raunio and Emma Peschel.
- Ohio State was awarded its only power play of the game at 3:17 in the third and Sloane Matthews scored 1:03 into the player advantage off assists from Hilda Svensson and Peschel.
- Sanni Vanhanen tallied the final goal of the game at 7:13 in the final stanza, skating the puck herself from center ice, around a Husky defender, and sending it past St. Cloud State netminder Jojo Chobak for the 5-1 Buckeye advantage.
- The game was the first of alumni weekend for the Ohio State women's hockey program. Prior to the start of the game, 2025 alumna and PWHL first round pick Jenna Buglioni dropped the puck to commence the weekend.
- Brooke Disher scored her first goal of the season and fourth of her Buckeye career.
- The game-winning goal went to Svensson on the penalty shot. The freshman has scored on both of the Buckeyes' penalty shot opportunities this season, with the first coming last weekend in the 4-1 win over Minnesota.
- Ohio State was perfect on the power play in Friday's game, scoring on its lone chance. The Buckeyes were also perfect on the penalty kill, holding St. Cloud State scoreless on four opportunities and only allowing the Huskies three shots on the power play.
- MacLeod made 11 saves to improve to 6-1-0 on the year.
- Peschel recorded her first multi-point game of the season, and 18th of her career, with two assists on the day. Svensson has now tallied two points in four of seven games played this year.
