Eberly records third career shutout
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 14/15 Ohio State men's hockey team used three second period goals and 21 saves from Kristoffer Eberly to down Sacred Heart, 3-0, Saturday in Value City Arena. Ohio State improves to 4-2 on the year, with the Pioneers 3-2.
The Short Story
Neither team scored in the first period. In the second, the Buckeyes took control, finding the back of the net three times. A power play goal from Davis Burnside opened the scoring at 8:17 and Niall Crocker's first career goal doubled the lead less than two minutes later. Defenseman William Smith made it 3-0 at 18:19 of the stanza. Buckeye goalie Kristoffer Eberly stopped all 10 shots he faced in the third to end the game with 21 saves and his third career shutout.
Forward Ryan Gordon had two assists and a team-best three blocked shots and Crocker added a helper for his first collegiate two-point game. The Buckeyes were 5-for-5 on the penalty kill in the win.

"We were more focused and worked a lot harder tonight. We were more consistent. That's a good hockey team. They work extremely hard and they don't give you a lot of room. Our guys dug a little deeper and the penalty kill was really good."

How it Happened
- The teams were scoreless in the first. Ohio State had the edge in shots, 10-5, including four on a 5-minute major power play.
- A power play goal from Davis Burnside opened the scoring at 8:17 of the season, as he converted a pass from Broten Sabo. Felix Caron had the second assist on the tally.
- Just under two minutes later freshman Niall Crocker doubled the Buckeye lead, as he chipped a Ryan Gordon pass up and past the goalie at 10:04. Jake Dunlap also had an assist on the goal
- Defenseman William Smith put the Buckeyes up 3-0 at 18:19, taking a Gordon pass and driving the net, pulling the goalie out of position and scoring on a backhand. Crocker had the second assist for a two-point night.
- The Buckeyes outshot the Pioneers, 11-6, in the middle period.
- Ohio State goalie Kristoffer Eberly stopped all 10 shots he faced in the third to preserve the shutout. The Buckeyes had eight shots on goal in the period.
- For the game, Ohio State had the shot advantage, 29-21. Eberly played 59:37, with 21 stops, and Sacred Heart's Ajeet Gundarah made 26 saves
- Gordon also blocked a Buckeye-best three shots in the game. The Pioneers had 16 blocks as a team.
- The Buckeyes were 5-for-5 on the penalty kill in the win, allowing just four shots on net, and the power play was 1-for-6.
- Eberly now has three career shutouts. It was his first since Dec. 5, 2024 vs. Penn State. He also shut out Bowling Green Oct. 26, 2024.
- Eberly has a 1.67 goals-against average and .933 save percentage this season, starting all six games.
- Gordon had his second two-assist and two-point game of the season, with the first Oct. 18 at UConn. He now has three two-point outings as a Buckeye. Gordon has a team-best 13 shot blocks.
- Caron leads Ohio State with six points this year (3g, 3a).
- Crocker is the first Buckeye freshman to score a goal this season.
- Ohio State is 20-for-22 (.909) on the penalty kill this year.
