COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 12 Ohio State field hockey team (7-6, 3-2 Big Ten) fell to Michigan State (5-9, 1-4 Big Ten). 4-3, on Sunday afternoon in East Lansing.

Game Recap

The Buckeyes struck first, with Raleigh Kerst scoring just under five and a half minutes into the first quarter to give Ohio State a 1-0 lead. Kerst was assisted by Victoria Kutz.
About seven minutes into the second quarter, a penalty corner for the Buckeyes resulted in a goal for Katie Fichtner to extend the Ohio State lead, 2-0. Anne Marie Krebs earned the assist.
With about two minutes remaining in the first half, the Spartans scored on a penalty shot but Ohio State remained ahead, 2-1, going into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Spartans scored twice to take a one-goal lead over the Buckeyes, 3-2.
A little over 10 minutes into the fourth quarter, the Spartans scored an empty-net goal to extend their lead, 4-2.
With about three and a half minutes remaining in the game, Makenna Webster scored to put the Buckeyes within one, 4-3. Olivia Wallace had the assist.
The Buckeyes got off two more shots on penalty corners in the remaining minutes of the game, but neither found its mark as Ohio State fell to Michigan State, 4-3, snapping its win streak at four games.

Buckeyes by the Numbers

Webster's goal was her 17^th of the season, which ties her career high. She also scored 17 goals during the 2023 season.
Kerst's goal was her fourth of the season, which is second-most on the team. Fichtner's goal was her third of the season.
It was the first assist of the season for both Krebs and Wallace, and the second assist of the season for Kutz.
Maddie Stevens (7-6) made two saves.
The Buckeyes outshot the Spartans, 24-8, and led in penalty corners, 12-3.
