COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 22 Ohio State women's soccer team fell to Washington, 1–0, on Sunday afternoon at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium despite a dominant defensive showing and multiple scoring chances.
The Huskies took the lead in the 45th minute after earning a penalty kick, which Lucy Newlin converted to give Washington a 1–0 edge at halftime. The goal marked just the fifth conceded by Ohio State all season and only the second allowed at home, underscoring the Buckeyes as one of the most defensively disciplined teams in the Big Ten.
In the 88th minute, the Buckeyes were awarded a penalty kick following a Washington foul in the box, but Amanda Schlueter's effort was saved by Huskie goalkeeper Tanner Ijams, denying Ohio State the equalizer.
Moments earlier, Elle Britt nearly leveled the match with a powerful strike that rattled the crossbar, while Jadin Bonham also came close in the closing minutes.
Goalkeeper Molly Pritchard was solid in net once again, making multiple key saves to keep the Buckeyes within striking distance. She finished the day with a season-high tying seven saves.
