Ohio State Earns 2-1 Win Over Bemidji State Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team swept its first conference series of the season with a 2-1 win over Bemidji State Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink.
The Short Story
The Beavers (2-4-0, 0-4-0 WCHA) scored first, but that was the only goal the Buckeyes (4-0-0, 2-0-0 WCHA) would allow for the weekend. Ohio State tied the game in the final minutes of the opening frame to start even in the second. For the second time this weekend, the Buckeyes held Bemidji State to just one shot on goal in the middle frame and Hilda Svensson's goal at 7:29 held up as the go-ahead goal to give Ohio State the win. Hailey MacLeod made nine saves on the day to secure the series sweep for the Buckeyes.

How it Happened
- Bemidji State went on the power play at 8:44 after a roughing penalty was called on the Buckeyes and scored at 8:52 to take its first lead of the series.
- Senior captain Emma Peschel tied the game at 18:29 in the first, taking a shot from steps inside the blue line and sending the puck over the shoulder of Beaver goaltender Ava Hills.
- In the second period, Mira Junagker lined up for her own shot from the blue line and Hilda Svensson was lined up in the slot ready to redirect it into the Bemidji State goal for the goal-ahead tally for the Buckeyes at 7:29.
- Both teams were held scoreless in the third period again. The Buckeyes didn't allow Bemidji State to pull Hills for the extra skater until less than a minute remained and still the defense held off the Beavers. Hailey MacLeod made four saves in the period to keep Bemidji State from tying the game.
- Leah Wicks recorded her first career goal in Saturday's game.
- Svensson tallied her second career multipoint game with a goal and an assist.
- Ohio State improves to 4-0-0 to start the year for the first time since the 2022-23 season.
