COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes hit the road for the first time in the new year and will take on Minnesota inside Williams Arena on Monday evening. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on FS1. Cory Provus and Nick Bahe will call the action.
The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.
- Ohio State and Minnesota are raising awareness for Hoops4ALS during the game. Both teams will be wearing Hoops4ALS shooting shirts, while each coaching staff will be wearing pins to raise awareness for ALS.
- The Buckeyes and Golden Gophers are meeting for the 159th time with the Buckeyes officially leading the all-time series 91-62.
- The teams met twice last year with each winning on its home floor. The Buckeyes won 84-74 in the Big Ten opener in Columbus on Dec. 3 and then Minnesota held serve with an 88-79 victory on Feb. 22 in Minneapolis.
- Bruce Thornton averaged 25.5 points and was 18-of-26 from the floor in the two games against Minnesota last season, leading the team in scoring in both games. On the other side, Dawson Garcia scored a Value City Arena opponent record 36 points on Dec. 3 and then led the Gophers with 22 points and nine boards in the win in Minneapolis.
- Ohio State is coming off a hard-fought back and forth game with No. 18 Michigan State on Friday night that ultimately ended in a 69-62 setback. The Buckeyes erased a 14-point second half deficit and took a one-point lead with under nine minutes to play. But the Spartans had the final push and came away with the road victory.
- Micah Parrish suffered an ankle injury in the second half of the win over Kentucky on Dec. 21 and was forced to miss the next game as well. He returned to the lineup vs. Michigan State and made three three-pointers to lead the team with 13 points.
- Sophomore Aaron Bradshaw and fifth year Ques Glover both returned to the lineup on Dec. 21, and both have played well. They have combined to average 21.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists.
- Despite a tough shooting night vs. MSU, the Buckeyes are still one of the best shooting teams in the conference. They are second in the league in three-point percentage at 38.4 percent, just behind Purdue.
- On the other side of the floor, they are second in three-point percentage defense and third in overall field goal defense.
- Minnesota is 8-6 overall and has dropped its first three Big Ten games. The Gophers are on the other of the list from the Buckeyes as they are the worst shooting team in the Big Ten. But they are in the Top 20 nationally in fewest turnovers as well as blocks per game.
