The football team is the No. 1 team in the nation and national champion after a 31-day run through a gauntlet of formidable Top 10/Top 5 programs – Tennessee, Oregon, Texas and Notre Dame – to win the first 12-team College Football Playoff while finishing with a program-record tying 14 wins on the season.




The No. 12 women’s basketball team defeated No. 8 Maryland at home and a strong Nebraska team on the road this past week to improve to 19-1 overall and 8-1 in the Big Ten Conference.

The No. 5 men’s gymnastics team out-performed No. 1 Stanford and No. 11 California at the Stanford Open Saturday night, including scoring a national-best 57.150 team score on vault, to improve to 8-0 on the season.




The No. 3 men’s tennis team swept past Louisville and Princeton by 4-0 scores to improve to 4-0 on the season and advance to next month’s ITA Indoor Team National Championship in Dallas, Texas. The Buckeyes have won three team indoor national championships and they are the defending national champions.




The men’s basketball team snapped Purdue’s 26-game home winning streak, 73-70, and improved to 11-8 overall and 3-5 in Big Ten play.

No. 12 Men’s volleyball (3-3 overall) had its scheduled matches at Penn State Thursday and then back in Columbus Saturday cancelled last week because of illness on both teams.




The No. 2 women’s hockey team skated to its third consecutive conference sweep, this time over Minnesota State, to improve to 20-5-3 overall and 14-5-3 in the WCHA.

The wrestling team dropped its first match of the season in a close one at No. 2 Iowa, 24-13, to fall to 11-1 on the year and 3-1 in the Big Ten.



The No. 12 rifle team took second in a competition with West Virginia and Morehead State over the weekend at the Hugh W. Wylie Range.


The pistol team won a quad competition at Navy with MIT and VMI with its second-highest score of the season, 6,742.

The No. 15 women’s tennis team defeated No. 10 North Carolina State and fell to No. 18 Tennessee, 4-3, at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Knoxville, Tenn.





The No. 14 women’s gymnastics team fell to No. 4 Michigan State Friday evening at the Covelli Center, 196.800-195.750, and is now 2-3 on the season.

The No. 14 men’s and No. 13 women’s swimming and diving teams won their respective competitions at the Tim Welsh Classic in South Bend, Ind.
Buckeyes and Nittany Lions end the series opener tied at 6 and Penn State picks up the extra B1G point with a shootout win.

The No. 9 men’s hockey team (15-7-2 overall; 8-5-1 Big Ten) earned points on the weekend on the road at Penn State with Game 1 going to a shootout and Game 2 an overtime affair.

The men’s and women’s track & field teams brought their two-week stretch of meets at the Indiana State Fairgrounds to a close on Saturday with 17 Top 10 finishes with six of those placing in the Top 5.
