Teams competing as dual season prep continues

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 15 Ohio State women's tennis team competed in its final tuneup before dual matches start, participating in the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich., over the weekend. The Buckeyes faced players from host Michigan, Michigan State, Eastern Michigan and Texas Tech.

In singles, Teah Chavez and Sydni Ratliff led the Buckeyes with two wins each on the weekend. The freshman duo of Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev, playing in her first collegiate event, and Nao Nishino was a team-best 3-0 in Ann Arbor. Dani Shoenley and Alessia Cau paired up for two doubles victories.

On day one, the Buckeyes were 4-4 in singles. Shelly Bereznyak and Chavez won in straight sets, Schoenly rallied for a three-set victory and Ratliff prevailed in three sets. The duo of Nishino and Cisse-Ignatiev downed a team from Michigan, 6-1.

Saturday, the Buckeyes posted four singles wins. Alessia Cau and Nishino were victors in straight sets, Chavez won in three sets and Ratliff rallied for a three-set win. Two doubles duos - Schoenly/Cau and Nishino/Cisse-Ignatiev - picked up wins vs. Texas Tech.

Sunday, the Buckeyes faced Michigan in singles, with three of the matches going to a third set. Ohio State was 3-0 in doubles, with two wins over Eastern Michigan and a victory over Michigan State.

Dual Season Up Next
The Buckeyes open the dual season at home Jan. 20 with a doubleheader, as they will take on Cleveland State at 10 a.m. and Bellarmine at 4 p.m. inside the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. Admission and parking are free.

ITA Kickoff Week follows Jan. 24-25, with Ohio State heading to Knoxville, Tenn., for a first-round match vs. N.C. State before taking on Tennessee or Texas Tech.
