Buckeyes Headed to Olympic Games

Arfa, Harvey and Chastanet set to compete
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A trio of Ohio State fencing alumni is in Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games. Fares Arfa and Eleanor Harvey are both part of Team Canada and Maximilien Chastanet is an alternate for Team France.Â
Harvey is making her third trip to the Games. She finished seventh in 2016 (including an upset of the world's top-ranked fencer to reach the quarterfinals) and reached the Table of 16, helping Canada to a fifth-place finish in team foil, in the 2020 Games. A Buckeye from 2014-17, Harvey was the 2016 NCAA foil champion and earned bronze in 2017. She was a two-time First Team All-American (2016, '17) and earned third team accolades in 2015. The women's individual foil is scheduled for Sunday, starting at 3:30 am ET and the team competition will be Aug. 1. Arfa, a member of the Buckeye squad from 2014-17, was a 2017 First Team All-American and earned the bronze medal at the NCAA Championships that year. He was a Second Team All-American in 2016 and third team selection in 2014. The men's sabre individual competition in Paris is slated for Saturday and the team competition will be next Wednesday (July 31). Team Canada bio | Instagram
Chastanet is an alternate for France in the team foil competition, which will be held Aug. 4. A four-time All-American for the Buckeyes from 2015-18, he won the 2016 NCAA Championship and finished third in 2017.
