COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State head coach Jake Diebler has announced the addition of Talor Battle as an assistant coach on his staff.
“Talor has great experience in the Big Ten both as a player and as a coach and I’m excited to welcome him to the Buckeye family,” said head coach Jake Diebler. “He is elite at player development which is evident by the success Northwestern has had the past couple of seasons. He has the ability to recruit at a high level and knows what it takes to be successful in this conference. I’ve known Talor for quite a while and I’m looking forward to working alongside him as we take the next step as a program.”
Battle had a decorated career as a point guard at Penn State and then helped guide one of the best backcourts in the country at Northwestern over the past three seasons.
Battle and the Wildcats finished second in the Big Ten standings last season for the first time since 1958-59. They also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history.
He had a big hand in helping Chase Audige and Boo Buie combine to form one of the best backcourts in the nation. Audige was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, a first at NU since 1994, and an All-Big Ten Second Team selection. Buie, who is Battle’s younger brother, posted one of the best seasons by a point guard in program history and became the first Wildcat named All-Big Ten First Team since 2012. Buie was also a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, which is awarded to the nation’s best point guard.
As a player at Penn State, Battle was a 2011 Associated Press honorable-mention All-American and is still Penn State's all-time leading scorer with 2,213 career points. He helped lead the Nittany Lions to the 2009 National Invitation Tournament championship and earned All-Big Ten Tournament Team honors in 2011 as Penn State advanced to its first Big Ten Tournament championship game and first NCAA tournament appearance in a decade.
The Albany, N.Y., native is one of only two players to lead Penn State in scoring in four-straight seasons. He was the first Nittany Lion to earn All-Big Ten first team honors twice and was a first-team NABC All-District and first-team USBWA honoree.
Battle then played professionally overseas for seven seasons before returning to his alma mater to begin his coaching career as an assistant coach in 2020-21. He graduated in 2011 from Penn State with a degree in recreation, park, and tourism management.
