Weekly highlight of the student-athletes behind the major moments in Ohio State Athletics
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week in and week out, Buckeye student-athletes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom or in the community. 'Buckeye Spotlight' recognizes student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.
First Varsity Eight | Rowing
- Helped the Buckeyes sweep No. 12 Virginia at the Longhorn Invite
- Audrey Murphy, Emma Alimbau Borras, Jamie Harris, Tess Thompson, Olivia Clotten, Leandra Hogrefe, Ellie Brindle, Isabelle Hübener, Paige Wheeler were in the winning Ohio State boat
- Defeated the Cavaliers with a time of 6:20.922 to 6:26.766
- Ohio State won all three NCAA races (1V8, 2V8, 1V4) in Texas.
- The Buckeyes now prepare for the Big Ten Championships May 19
Kirsten Eppele | Softball | Sr. | Strongsville, Ohio
- Eppele hit three home runs and drove in five runs over the final two games of Ohio State's series at Michigan last weekend, helping the Buckeyes secure a series win over the second-place Wolverines for the second consecutive season.
- Her home runs came on three consecutive at-bats, beginning on Saturday and continuing into the series finale on Sunday.
- On Saturday, she hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning to give Ohio State a 6-0 lead. The next day, she went 2-for-2 with two solo home runs in a 2-1 win series-clinching victory.
- Eppele is currently second on the team in home runs (11) and RBI (37).
- Over the last 12 Big Ten games, she's batting .353 with a .912 slugging percentage, five homes and a team-best 16 RBI. Ohio State has won 10 of those 12 games.
- The sixth-seeded Buckeyes begin Big Ten Tournament play on Wednesday evening when they face 11th-seeded Wisconsin at approximately 8 p.m. ET from Iowa City, Iowa.
Vinny Kilkeary | Wrestling | Fr. | Greensburg, Penn.
- Took second at 57kg in the 2024 U20 U.S. Freestyle Open in Las Vegas
- Won first five matches at the event before loss in finals.
- Pinned his first two opponents.
- Outscored opponents 41-9 in five wins with a pair of 10-0 victories
JJ Tracy | Men's Tennis | Sr. | Powell, Ohio
- Went 3-0 last week in leading the Buckeyes to a pair of NCAA Tournament victories last weekend.
- He won his doubles match against Cleveland State and then led 5-2 in the match against Oklahoma State.
- Won both of his singles matches, dropping just three total games in four sets.
- Has 224 career victories, which is seventh all-time in program history. He is also one doubles win away from 100 in his career
Cole Young | Men's Volleyball | Jr. | Powell, Ohio
- Hit .727 with nine kills on 11 swings with just one error vs. Grand Canyon in NCAA Quarterfinals
- Also added a dig and block in loss to the Antelopes in Long Beach, California
- Ended season as league leader in the MIVA in hitting at .438 (all games) and in conference play (.414)
- Also led league in total blocks (118) and finished second in blocks per set (0.98)
