COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State rowing team advanced two of three boats to the A/B semifinals on the first day of the 2024 NCAA Championships Friday morning in Bethel, Ohio. The First and Second Varsity Eight boats will race Saturday morning for a spot in the grand final.

The Buckeyes' 2V8 earned the highest finish of the day for the team in its heat, taking second in the fourth heat. The Buckeyes were third through the first 500m but jumped ahead of Brown for second place at the 1000m mark. Ohio State finished runner up to Yale by three seconds, crossing the finish in a time of 6:58.697 to safely secure a spot in the A/B semifinal.

The 1V8 was one of the quickest boats of the start in the fourth heat. The Buckeye boat was neck-and-neck with California for the majority of the race, with Ohio State coming within two tenths of a second of the Golden Bears at the 1500m mark and never falling more than 1.5 seconds behind. At the end of the 2K, the Buckeyes took third place to book their ticket to the A/B finals by a nearly 20 second margin of victory over fourth-place Indiana.

Ohio State's First Varsity Four will compete in Saturday's C/D semifinals after finishing fourth in a time of 7:57.486.

The 1V8 competes in the first heat of the semifinals at 9:48 Saturday against Penn, Brown, Princeton, Texas and Yale from lane six. The 2V8 will race in the second heat of the semifinals at 10:36 Saturday against Penn, Stanford, Washington, Princeton and Michigan from lane two. The 1V4 competes in the fourth heat of the C/D semifinal against Jacksonville, Gonzaga, Virginia and Boston from lane four.

The top three teams in the A/B finals advance to the grand final and the remainder race for places 7-12 in the petite finals. The top three teams in the C/D semifinals advance to the C final for places 13-18 with the remainder to the D finals for places 19-22.
