Weekly highlight of the student-athletes behind the major moments in Ohio State Athletics
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week in and week out, Buckeye student-athletes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom or in the community. 'Buckeye Spotlight' recognizes student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.
Jack Anthrop | Men's Tennis | So. | Orlando, Fla.
- Jack Anthrop went a combined 4-0 last week in helping the Buckeyes to the 17th Big Ten Tournament title in program history.
- Anthrop won all three of his singles in dominating fashion, surrendering just seven games in six sets.
- He also teamed with Cannon Kingsley to win a doubles match in the championship match against Michigan.
- On the year, Anthrop has a team-best 36 singles wins and is 24-0 in the dual portion of the year.
Carlos Aviles | Men's Track & Field | Sr. | Ventura, Calif.
- Carlos Aviles competed in the invite section of both the shot put and discus this weekend at Louisville. Aviles won his second-consecutive discus competition by breaking the program record with his best mark of 59.14m – a record previously set in 2003. His mark was 1.5m further than the runner-up.
- Aviles was also fifth in the shot put invite with a best throw of 17.42m.
- This season, Aviles ranks 22nd in the country in the discus and 57th in the shot put.
Kaitlyn Farley | Softball | Jr. | Encinitas, Calif.
- Farley hit .500 in Ohio State's final home series of the regular season last weekend vs. Illinois with two home runs, a double and three RBI.
- She hit home runs in the first game of the series and also in the series finale for a weekend slugging percentage of 1.667.
- Her on-base percentage of .625 was also the best on the team.
- In the last six games – vs. Maryland and Illinois – Farley is hitting .429 with four extra base hits and a .500 on-base percentage. The Buckeyes are 5-1 in those games.
- Ohio State concludes it regular season this weekend when it travels to Ann Arbor, Mich. for a three-game series vs. Michigan. Action gets underway on Friday at 6 p.m.
Jamie Lasda | Women's Lacrosse | Sr. | Ithaca, N.Y.
- Lasda had a team-best five points, with a hat trick and two assists, in the Buckeyes' Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal game at Penn State.
- Her first assist of the game was the 50th of her career and her second moved her into a tie for eighth in school history in career assists.
- The game was the 15th of her career with a hat trick or more and she ended the season with a team-best 43 goals and 51 points, her second-straight 50-point season. In all, Lasda had 105 goals, 51 assists and 158 points in 60 games in the Scarlet and Gray, ending the year on a 23-game point streak.
- She also led the Buckeyes with 68 draw controls, including three vs. Penn State, tying for the sixth-most in a single season and she ends her career ninth all-time with 112.
Aniya Mosley | Women's Track & Field | So. | Virginia Beach, Va.
- Aniya Mosley broke two program records this past weekend at the Penn Relays.
- Mosley began the meet by breaking the 1500m outdoor record by more than one second, running a 4:12.34 to finish as the runner-up in the event. She previously ranked fifth among the program's leaders before crushing her former PR by more than 8.5 seconds.
- Mosley also ran a leg on the record-breaking sprint medley relay (3:45.73) that finished fifth overall.
- This season, Mosley ranks 25th in the country in the 1500m and 50th in the 800m.
Luciana Perry | Women's Tennis | Fr. | Export, Pa.
- Perry was a perfect 6-0 in the Big Ten Tournament and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
- The freshman posted three straight-set wins on court two in singles and paired with Irina Cantos Siemers (also an all-tournament team selection) for three doubles victories on court one.
- The No. 2 seed Buckeyes reached the final of the tournament before falling to No. 1 seed Michigan.
- Ohio State earned the No. 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the program's 10th consecutive berth, and will host first and second round matches this weekend.
Hunter Rosson | Baseball | Sr. | Aledo, Texas
- Hunter Rosson had a career-best week for the Buckeyes last week, batting .545 with a .583 on-base percentage, 1.545 slugging percentage and 2.129 OPS over three games played.
- Of Rosson's six hits on the week, three were home runs, including a grand slam at Wright State last Tuesday.
- Against Michigan State on Saturday, Rosson drove in a career-high six runs. He finished the week with 12 RBIs.
- Rosson's performance earned him Big Ten Co-Player of the Week honors.
First Varsity Eight | Rowing
- Helped the Buckeyes sweep No. 12 Virginia at the Longhorn Invite
- Audrey Murphy, Emma Alimbau Borras, Jamie Harris, Tess Thompson, Olivia Clotten, Leandra Hogrefe, Ellie Brindle, Isabelle Hübener, Paige Wheeler were in the winning Ohio State boat
- Defeated the Cavaliers with a time of 6:20.922 to 6:26.766
- Ohio State won all three NCAA races (1V8, 2V8, 1V4) in Texas
- The Buckeyes now prepare for the Big Ten Championships May 19
The 2024 NFL Draft | Football
- Marvin Harrison Jr. became the highest Ohio State receiver selected in the NFL Draft when the Arizona Cardinals selected him in the first round with the fourth overall pick.
- Harrison Jr. is the 91st Ohio State Buckeye to be drafted in the first round, a record total among all colleges and universities.
- Michael Hall Jr., was chosen in the second round by the Cleveland Browns.
- Two other Buckeyes were drafted: Cade Stover in the fourth round by the Houston Texans and Tommy Eichenberg in the fifth round by the Las Vegas Raiders.
- Additionally, four more Buckeyes were picked up by NFL teams as free agents: Steele Chambers (Detroit Lions), Xavier Johnson (Buffalo Bills), Matt Jones (Miami Dolphins) and Josh Proctor (Jacksonville Jaguars).
