Ohio State advances to the championship match for the 20th consecutive time
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State showed why it’s the top team in the league on Saturday, dominating in singles play to defeat Nebraska 4-1 and advance to the finals of the Big Ten Tournament.
The Buckeyes (29-1) dropped the doubles point but then took all six opening sets in singles to thwart any thought of a Nebraska upset.
Ohio State advances to the finals of the Big Ten Tournament for the 20th consecutive season and will face No. 2 seed Michigan. The Buckeyes have beaten the Wolverines twice this season, once in Ann Arbor on March 17 and once in Columbus on April 14. Both matches were 4-0 sweeps.
Nebraska took the early lead, winning the doubles matches on courts one and two. Cannon Kingsley and JJ Tracy won 6-2 on court three for the lone Buckeye victory.
But the singles point was a different story. Ohio State won five of the first sets by a score of 6-2 and Kingsley made it 6-for-6 with a 7-5 win on court two.
Just like Friday, it turned into a race to see who could provide the final points. Justin Boulais avenged a loss last week to No. 80 Calvin Mueller with a solid 6-2, 6-0 victory in the feature match on court one. Jack Anthrop then won 6-2, 6-2 on court four and Robert Cash made it 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court six.
The clinching point then came from Alexander Bernard as he beat Leo Linquet 6-2, 6-2 on court five and then Buckeyes rolled into the final match.
Sunday’s final is set for a 1 p.m. ET first serve and will be streamed live on B1G+.
