Jackson Chandler posted yet another Top 10 at Scarlet, finishing runner-up
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State finished runner-up at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on Sunday following a final round 291. That put the Buckeyes at 22-over par and three shots behind champion Indiana.
Individually, senior Jackson Chandler capped his collegiate career on the Scarlet course with yet another solid performance. The Dublin, Ohio native has finished in the Top 10 in every collegiate event he’s played on the Buckeyes’ home course, and he added another this week. He shot rounds of 68-71-75 to finish at 1-over par and just one shot out of medalist honors. The runner-up finish was his second Top 10 of the year, and it matches his career-best finish from last year’s Kepler Intercollegiate.
Fellow senior Adam Wallin made two birdies and two bogeys in his final round of even-par 71 and he finished in a tie for ninth at 5-over par. Maxwell Moldovan also closed his collegiate career at Scarlet well. After opening with a 77, he rebounded with back-to-back rounds of even-par 71 to finish tied for 12th.
Tyler Sabo posted a 3-over 74 on Sunday while Neal Shipley shot a 75 to round out the Buckeye scoring five.
Individually, senior Patrick Schmuecking fired a 1-under 70 in his final round at Scarlet to post the first Top 10 of his career. He matched Wallin at 5-over par for the event. Schmuecking has battled a back injury this season as this was only his fifth event of the year.
Topher Reed birdied the final hole of the day to post a 1-over 72 and finish in a tie for 21st at 8-over par. Drew Mulcahy enjoyed his best tournament of the year, shooting rounds of 73-74-77 to finish tied for 38th at 11-over. Tyler Groomes also carded with a 77 on Sunday to finish a shot back at 12-over par.
Jack Vojtko bounced back after a couple of tough rounds to fire an even-par 71 on Sunday, making three birdies and three bogeys. Jacob Tarkany finished with his best round of the tournament on Sunday, posting a 3-over 74.
The Buckeyes will shift their focus to the Big Ten Tournament this week at Scioto Country Club just down the road. The 54-hole tournament starts next Friday and will run through Sunday.
