Alexander named IWLCA and B1G defensive player of the week
COLUMBUS, Ohio – After helping lead the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team to a come-from-behind win over then-No. 19 Penn State last week, goalie Regan Alexander and attacker Kate Tyack have been recognized with weekly honors. Alexander was selected the IWLCA Defensive Player of the Week and named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. Tyack was honored with both the Big Ten Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week awards.

A senior from Orlando, Fla., Alexander had 11 saves in the victory over the Nittany Lions, along with a team-best four ground balls and a caused turnover. Among her saves was stop 400 of her Buckeye career. Alexander stopped all six shots by the Nittany Lions in the fourth quarter as Ohio State blanked Penn State for the final 20:34. She limited Penn State, who entered the game averaging 12.0 goals a game, to eight on the night. The game was Alexander's sixth this year (all in the last seven games) with double-digit stops. She is sixth nationally in save percentage (.513) and ranks 22nd in the NCAA (first in the B1G) with 9.18 saves a game.

Tyack, a Dublin, Ohio, native and Dublin Coffman High School product, had a team-high and career best three goals and four points vs. Penn State, with all three goals in the final 2:56 of the game. With the Buckeyes down 8-2 at the start of the fourth quarter, Tyack set up the first Buckeye goal of the stanza to start the eventual Ohio State seven-goal run. She then tallied a player-up free position goal for an 8-6 game at 2:56. After a Buckeye tally from Annie Hargraves drew Ohio State within one at 2:10, Tyack scored unassisted at 1:04 to tie the game and she the notched the gamewinner (also unassisted) with 10 seconds left on the clock. Her three goals came on three shots. The game marked Tyack’s first career hat trick after two two-goal outings. She has 11 goals on the year, posting two assists for 13 points.
This is Alexander’s second B1G weekly award after garnering defensive player accolades in February 2022. Tyack was recognized as the league’s freshman of the week earlier this season.
This week, Alexander, Tyack and the Buckeyes head south for a noon game at Cincinnati Friday. The squad will then play at Louisville next Tuesday and at No.1 Northwestern April 13. The regular season home finale will be vs. Rutgers April 18 and the regular season ends at Temple April 21.
