COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 1 Ohio State continued to roll, beating Nebraska 6-1 on Friday night in Lincoln to clinch a share of its 18th Big Ten championship. The Buckeyes will go for an outright title on Sunday at Wisconsin.
The win improves the Buckeyes to 26-1 on the season and 8-0 in conference play. Nebraska, who is led by former Buckeye All-American Peter Kobelt, is now 15-9 and 4-4 in Big Ten matches.
JJ Tracy provided the clinching point while Robert Cash was the lone Buckeye to win both a doubles and singles match on the night.
Cash and Bryce Nakashima teamed together to win 6-3 on court one, taking down Nebraska’s top pair of Anton Shepp and Nic Wiedenhorn. Andrew Lutschaunig and Justin Boulais also won easily on court two 6-2 and the Buckeyes took the doubles point.
Cash’s doubles win was the 139th of his career, which ties him with Nebraska interim head coach Peter Kobelt for the most in Ohio State history.
In singles, Alexander Bernard put the second point on the board with a 6-4, 7-6(4) win on court five and then Cash followed shortly with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Roni Hietaranta on court six.
