Mendez, Feldman Advance to Big Ten Finals

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Sophomore Jesse Mendez and redshirt freshman Nick Feldman will wrestle for Big Ten championships Sunday at 141 pounds and heavyweight, respectively, after a run to the finals Saturday. Several other Buckeyes remained in contention for Top 3 finishes after the first day of the 2024 Big Ten Championships at the XFINITY Center on the University of Maryland campus.
The Buckeyes are in fifth place in the overall team standings with 78.5 points.
Sophomore Jesse Mendez (141) and redshirt freshman Nick Feldman (HWT) both advanced to the semifinals Saturday evening as No. 2 seeds in their respective weight classes.
Mendez then earned a spot in the finals with a 6-3 win by decision over No. 3 seed Real Woods of Iowa.

Mendez will face Penn State's Beau Bartlett, the No. 1 seed at 141, in the finals Sunday afternoon.

Feldman secured his finals spot with an 8-6 win over Michigan's Lucas Davison, the No. 3 seed in the heavyweight bracket.

In the finals Sunday, Feldman will take on No. 1 seed Greg Kerkvliet.
Redshirt senior Dylan D'Emilio (149) and redshirt freshman Luke Geog (197) battled back through the consolation rounds to stay in contention for third place finishes.
True freshmen Rocco Welsh (174) and Ryder Rogotzke (184) won their opening round matches before falling in the quarterfinals. The duo also will continue wrestling Sunday for a chance at a third place finish.
D'Emilio, Welsh, Rogotzke and Geog will all battle in the consolation semifinals Sunday at noon.
