Thirteen Buckeyes Post Top 5 Finishes at NCAA Regionals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Thirteen members of the Ohio State fencing team placed in the Top 5 at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Detroit Saturday. Edriss Ndiaye led the Buckeyes, as he was the gold medalist in men's foil. Alina Lee (women's foil) and Luca Fioretto (men's saber) both earned silver, while Paul Veltrup was the bronze medalist in men's epee.

Montserrat Viveros and Karina Dyner finished fourth and fifth, respectively, for the Buckeyes in women's epee. They each were 7-4 on the day; Viveros had a +10 indicator, Dyner +8.

Alina Lee was 14-2 in the regional, with a +38 indicator, to finish second in women's foil. Dasha Myroniuk won 12 of 16 bouts, with a +28 indicator, for a fourth-place finish.

Edriss Ndiaye, the CCFC foil champion, continued his strong season as he captured the gold medal in men's foil. He was a perfect 9-0 on the day, with a +23 indicator. Justin Vogler won 6-of-9 bouts for a fourth-place finish and Ilya Ayupov had five victories to place fifth.

NCAA Selections Announced Tuesday
- The athletes selected for the NCAA Championships will be announced on NCAA.com March 12.
- Qualification to the NCAA Championships is based on regular season results and NCAA regional finish. No more than two fencers per gender per weapon may be selected from each school.
- Each region is allocated a certain number of spots for the NCAA Championships, with 144 total competitors selected. This year, the Midwest Region has five NCAA allocations in men's and women's epee and women's foil and four in men's foil and men's and women's saber. All six weapons will also have two at-large spots.
